Taehyung had eaten the food quietly, the warmth filling not just his stomach but a part of his heart that had been cold for far too long. Soon after, sleep pulled him in gently, and Jungkook didn’t move an inch from his side.
It felt like a dream to both of them.
And if it truly was—neither wanted to wake up from it.
The peaceful silence broke when the door creaked open slowly.
Jungkook’s head immediately turned toward the sound.
Yoongi stood there in the doorway, and behind him, Jimin peeked out, almost like he was trying to shield Yoongi from Jungkook’s wrath—just in case.
"Jungkook..." Yoongi began cautiously, "We need to head out now. It’s been two days since you last returned to the mansion. The council meeting is still pending."
Jungkook’s jaw clenched.
He didn’t want to leave.
Not yet.
Not when Taehyung had just begun to sleep peacefully after everything.
“Postpone the meeting to next weekend.” Jungkook said flatly.
Yoongi’s eyes narrowed.
“We can’t. It’s important. The attacks on the western borders have become more frequent. We can’t ignore this anymore.”
Jungkook opened his mouth to argue, but Yoongi continued before he could.
“And about Hoseok—his sister was rescued safely. He’s requesting to leave the territory. You need to handle it personally.”
“The military’s asking for more weapons,” Yoongi added, voice heavy now. “And permission to expand their operations. Secretly. Deep into enemy territory.”
The air shifted.
There was something more behind Yoongi’s words.
Jungkook knew it.
“A lot is happening, Jungkook...”
The weight in Yoongi’s tone said what his words didn’t.
Taehyung, now awake, watched quietly from the bed.
He had forgotten—conveniently, selfishly—that Jungkook wasn’t just his.
He was a king. A protector.
Responsible for thousands.
For bloodlines. For borders. For peace that barely held.
And suddenly... Taehyung hated that crown.
He hated that it always had to pull Jungkook away.
Jungkook stepped forward and faced Yoongi.
“Call the council members. We need to fix a few things—tonight.”
Yoongi gave a subtle nod and turned to leave.
Jungkook’s eyes drifted to Taehyung one more time.
“Jimin,” he said gently, “Take care of him. I’ll be back… to take him home.”
And just like that, he left.
Jimin let out a huge sigh as the door closed behind Jungkook.
“Fuck... I don’t even remember how long I was holding my breath!” He groaned and walked toward Taehyung.
But Taehyung sat still, lost in thought.
His eyes on the door.
His mind somewhere far away.
Too many things ran through his head.
He was proud of Jungkook...
But for once, he wished the crown didn’t shine so brightly.
Because no matter how deep their love ran—
There would always be something bigger pulling Jungkook away.
