Taehyung was deep in slumber when a rustling sound reached his ears. He stirred, groggily reaching out to snuggle closer to Jungkook—but found empty sheets beside him.
His eyes flew open in confusion, just in time for a sudden explosion of voices:
“Happy birthday to you!”
Taehyung nearly fell off the bed. His heart pounded as he realized he was back in his own room. For a split second, he panicked, remembering he’d fallen asleep in Jungkook’s room—but then a soft smile curled onto his lips. Jungkook must have carried him here.
“Oh my god, Taehyung! I can’t believe you’re already twenty-two. I swear you were just nineteen yesterday!” squealed Minnie, one of Taehyung’s vampire friends from college.
“It still feels like he’s nineteen,” chimed in Wooyoung, another vampire friend, arms crossed as he eyed Taehyung up and down.
“Come on, Taehyung, blow out the candles already. We didn’t come here this late just for your dry responses,” Jimin huffed, nudging him forward.
Taehyung blinked, laughter bubbling in his chest. He clasped his hands, closed his eyes to make a wish, and then blew out the candles as everyone cheered and clapped.
“We’ve organized a huge party for you,” Minnie declared proudly, stepping closer. She slid an invitation card into the front of Taehyung’s shirt with a mischievous grin. “So make sure you show up.” She winked at him before stepping back.
“Wow. So you can flirt with him but not with me?” Wooyoung deadpanned, pouting dramatically.
Minnie rolled her eyes. “I only flirt with men, not ladybugs like you.”
Wooyoung scoffed. “Yeah? Well, I flirt with girls, not frogs like you!”
“You two—stop acting like either of you gives a single fuck about the opposite gender,” Jimin interrupted, clicking his tongue and shaking his head.
Minnie ignored him, leaning closer to Taehyung. “Anyway, meet us at the location tomorrow morning. Early! We know you’ll be busy with royal sh—royal things in the evening.” She winked and blew him a playful air kiss.
Taehyung let out a bark of laughter. “Minnie, I must say—that’s the straightest thing you’ve ever done since I’ve known you.”
Everyone burst into laughter as Minnie flipped him off, smirking. “I better stick with my girlies.” She turned on her heel and marched out of the room.
Wooyoung shot Taehyung a serious look. “Hey. Make sure you get some sleep, okay? We want you there at seven a.m. sharp. This is the first time you’ve agreed to celebrate your birthday properly.”
Taehyung nodded, feeling a warm buzz of affection for his chaotic friends.
When they all finally left, he glanced at the cake sitting on his nightstand. He tilted his head, stomach growling.
“Well… can’t let this go to waste.”
He licked his lips, picked up a fork, and dug into the cake with happy abandon.
As Taehyung sat cross-legged on his bed, shoveling cake into his mouth like a starving animal, the door suddenly creaked open. He froze mid-bite, cheeks stuffed, frosting smudged across his lips and even his chin.
