Scene Nine:

Huffing impatiently, Jordan closed his eyes and tried to picture his happy place. Figuring it would help for the most part, he was rudely interrupted from his fantasy as a nearby pillow smacked him straight in the face. Groaning, he opened his eyes to see his mother standing over him with her hands on her hips.

After the confrontation with Christofer, Jordan decided to take the rest of the day off to find comfort in his home. The trip into his old neighborhood in Fort Wayne brought the anticipated smell of freshly baked goods, the comfort of his long-life companion and of course, his mother's soft face and gentle voice.

Jordan had yet found his trusty companion and friend, Wallace, but figured it was because he was sleeping on a bed, taking his usual cat naps.

Jordan cursed himself silently as he couldn’t help the temptation of checking his phone for the umpteenth time and as the taunting voice spoke once again, he was ready to throw it across the room.

"There are no new messages,"  It spoke in it’s monotone voice.

Shutting his eyes once again, Jordan found that this time his mother looked weary. "Okay, tell me who she is." She said, taking a seat on the couch next to his laying form.

Confused, Jordan raised his eyebrows. "Who?"

"The girl you’re obsessing over!" His mother said, rolling her eyes. She held a wooden spoon in her hand, she must have been cooking when she spotted his distress signals from in the living room.

Jordan opened his mouth to question further when she held up a finger and scuttled her way back into the kitchen. Pots and pans banged together as she rummaged through the cabinets, and Jordan sat up to watch her, just as he did when he was a young boy.

His mother started stirring the recently made food that was brewing in the pot in front of her, when she spoke again yet this time louder. "Don’t even play dumb with me, Jordan. I know when a boy is obsessing over a girl, I’m not that old."

"Really," He started. "I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. I am not obsessing over some girl." Which was the truth, in fact, he was waiting for Christofer to call and apologize for his behavior. Then again, Jordan knew Christofer and he knew he was too stubborn to do such as thing.

Slamming the cover onto the pot, his mother turned around to face Jordan. Her lips were pursed and Jordan knew he was about to being subjected to a sage speech from his overbearing mother. "Jordan, I know all the signs." She said, listing them on her fingers as she went. "You’re sighing every few moments, you seem to cover your face with your hands everytime I see you, or you’re running them through your hair. Finally, you’ve been checking your phone for the past three hours, only to figure out there has been no messages in your inbox. Face it, you’re showing all the signs of obsession. If you weren’t would you be checking your phone again as I’m directly speaking to you?"

Jordan dragged his gaze away from his phone again, in shame. His mother was right, he was obsessing over this but not over Christofer. Jordan was merely waiting for his apology so he could rub it in his face that he was right.
