Scene Thirty-Nine: Epilogue

It hadn't even been a full hour yet at the restaurant, given the time to seat the large party of fellow friends and family members and to get their ordered food ready, but Jordan had practically eaten his entire meal already. His body was eagerly accepting the sweet pleasure of the restaurant's cuisine and once in a while his stomach would rumble in appreciation.

For the past week Jordan had eaten the small rations at the hospital, and the food choices were limited to soup and plain ham sandwiches.

But it wasn't all bad.

Christofer, the ever-caring lover, gladly brought Jordan other meals prepared by Jordan's overly endearing mother. Except right now Jordan was finally eating something worth groaning over, the rich taste was something he had truely missed while being treated.

The entire table was thoroughly content with their luxurious meals as well, which Jordan fully anticipated. The restaurant was purposely chosen ahead of time, not only for the divine food but also or the welcoming atmosphere. Tonight was the night that Jordan and Christofer would announce their engagement, in front of all the customers in the restaurant and their loved ones. The truth was, while many of Jordan's family members visited him in the hospital, he never once let them gaze upon the large, shimmering rock on his finger. He wanted to keep it as a surprise and follow through with Christofer's original plans, minus the proposing part.

Just as Jordan snorted at his mother's blatant joke about doctors not knowing the difference in being crude or honest, it was then that he realized Christofer started to choke on his own food. At first glance, Jordan thought Christofer was laughing along with what his mother absentmindedly said but once he saw Christofer slam his hand on the table and grab his throat with the other, Jordan shot up out of his chair and stood there, panicked.

As much as his body was urging him to protect and save the one he loved, Jordan could only stand there, stupefied.

Thankfully, Jordan's mother was the first to act, calling out for help to the waiters watching nearby as she rounded the table and began to wrap her arms around his upper torso. She gave Christofer no warning as she lifted him in the air and began to crush his ribcage with the tight hold of her arms. She squeezed him for a good measure of time before pulling Christofer upwards to force the piece of food out of his esophagus.

It only lasted a few seconds, to which felt like hours to Jordan who gripped the table tightly and cried out as Christofer's face faintly turned blue, but once Christofer miraculously spit out the chunk of soy, he continued to relentlessly gag for his life. The sudden distress of forcing the food out of his system, left Christofer to heave and choke on the floor while trying to regain his breathing pattern.

Jordan was immediately at Christofer's side, smoothing his unruly hair from his face and placing gentle kisses at the nape of his neck. The surrounding crowd that emerged out of nowhere at the call of distress, clapped and cheered as Christofer's life was proclaimed to be saved. Jordan's mother even  beamed at her audience, gloating over her rescuing tactic before gracefully sitting

herself down in her chair, the rest of the congregating party following suit.

Jordan excused himself and Christofer and led them to the bathroom in the back of the restaurant. Once there he looked at Christofer's teary eyes and scrunched face. "Jesus, you almost gave me a heart attack! Are you alright?"
