Two Rings, One Answer

As Catherine and Jackie are about to leave the house to go do some shopping, Jackie's phone keeps ringing nonstop. Jackie glances at her phone, seeing Tommy's name repeatedly flashing on the screen. She sighs and puts her phone on silent, deciding to deal with it later. She turns to Catherine, noting the discomfort in her expression.

JACKIE You're right, Catherine

Jackie already knows what Catherine is thinking by just seeing her facial expression. And she can't blame her, she feels the same way.

Catherine nods, appreciating Jackie's acknowledgment.

CATHERINE It's just frustrating that he doesn't seem to respect our relationship and the boundaries we've set. I thought we made it clear to him.

Jackie reaches out and gently takes Catherine's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I know, and I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I'll have a serious talk with Tommy and make it even clearer that his actions are not acceptable. Catherine looks into Jackie's eyes, finding solace and reassurance in her partner's words.

Catherine sits in the driver's seat, while Jackie sits in the passenger seat. They are on their way to the grocery store, enjoying the peaceful drive.

CATHERINE (gently) Jackie, you know, I've been thinking a lot about our future together.

JACKIE (sincerely) I know you have, so have I babe.

CATHERINE (nervously) I couldn't imagine my life without you. We've built something so special, something I never thought would be possible for me.

Jackie looks at Catherine, sensing that there's something more behind her words.

JACKIE (curiously) What's on your mind, Catherine? You seem a bit... unsure?

CATHERINE (takes a deep breath) Well, Jacks, I've been thinking where we stand. And I know with everything that happened in Bloomington and you restarting you acting career we decided to keep us out of the public eye... but, you know, I think I am ready to make it more permanent.

Jackie's eyes widen, a mix of surprise and confusion crossing her face.

JACKIE (puzzled) What do you mean, Catherine? Are you talking about...?

CATHERINE (smiling nervously) Marry me Porcupine. I know this is not the way we thought it would happen, and I wish I was better prepared but this whole think with Tommy has made me realize that I just want the world to know that you are mine.

Jackie's face lights up with a mixture of surprise and joy.

JACKIE (stammering) Engagement? Catherine, I... I didn't realize you were thinking about that. I mean, it's a big step, isn't it?

CATHERINE (sincerely) It is a big step, Jackie, but it's a step I'm ready to take with you. You've given me the chance to have the life I had always wanted. No more random flings. I fell in love with you, I am so in love with you Jackie.

JACKIE (touched) Catherine, I love you more than words can express. And the thought of spending the rest of my life with you, it's... it's incredible. But I never want to pressure you into anything. Are you really ready for this?

CATHERINE (confidently) Jackie, I've never been surer about anything in my life. But I want you to take your time to think about it. There's no rush, and I'll support whatever decision you make. I know you have a lot to think about especially how this would affect the movie and your career.

Jackie reaches out and gently touches Catherine's hand, a mix of emotions playing on her face.

JACKIE (softly) Catherine, I'm overwhelmed, in the best way possible. The idea of spending forever with you is something I've dreamt about. I don't even want to think about what the publicists would say. Right now, in this moment I am just so happy.

CATHERINE (tenderly) I love you, Jackie. And whenever you're ready, I'll be right here, waiting for our next adventure.

JACKIE (emotional) I love you too, C. I am ready, more than you could possibly know.

Jackie, taken aback by Catherine's subtle proposal, reaches into her bag and pulls out a small velvet box. Her hands tremble with excitement as she opens the box, revealing a beautiful engagement ring she has been secretly holding onto for months.

JACKIE (stammering) Catherine... I... I can't believe this is actually happening

Catherine's eyes widen in surprise as she sees the ring in Jackie's hand.

CATHERINE (in awe) Jackie, is that...?

JACKIE (teary-eyed, with a smile) Yes, Catherine. I've been carrying this ring with me for months, waiting for the perfect moment to ask you the same question.

They exchange the most heartfelt smiles, their hearts brimming with love and excitement.

CATHERINE (whispering) Jackie, will you marry me?

JACKIE (teary-eyed, with a nod) Yes, Catherine. A thousand times, yes.

Jackie carefully slides the yellow diamond engagement ring onto Catherine's ring finger, and a sense of anticipation fills the air.
