The road from Chittor to Mewar wound like a ribbon of gold through the Aravalli hills. The royal procession shimmered beneath the noonday sun, banners of scarlet and ivory fluttering in the wind, elephants adorned with embroidered silks, guards riding in disciplined silence.
At the heart of it rode Rajkumari Aaryavika Solanki, now Rani Aaryavika Rathore, veiled in crimson, her face hidden but her spine unbowed. She rode in a gilded palanquin, yet her eyes never rested. Every sound, the rhythm of hooves, the calls of soldiers, the flutter of standard-bearers, marked the rhythm of her new fate.
Beyond her window, Rudradev rode his horse alongside, silent and watchful. Their eyes met once through the fluttering drapes; brief, uncertain, but heavy with unspoken thought.
Neither smiled.
But neither looked away.
By dusk, the procession reached the fortress of Mewar. The sandstone palace glowing amber beneath the setting sun. It's gates opened with ceremonial grandeur, drums rolling and conch shells echoing against the walls.
The people of Mewar had gathered in the courtyards including nobles, warriors, and commoners alike, their faces lifted to greet the new queen. Flower petals rained down as Aaryavika's palanquin stopped before the grand marble steps.
When she stepped out, the murmurs softened. Her poise silenced even the restless crowd; she looked less like a new bride and more like a queen already in command of her throne.
Waiting at the top of the stairs stood Aadityadev Rathore, Rudradev's younger brother, a man of quick wit and quicker laughter. His eyes sparkled with curiosity as he bowed deeply.
"Mewar mei aapka swagat hai, Bhabhi sa. Hume dar tha ke hamare bhaisa kabhi ghar aisi dulhan nahi layenge jo unki aankhon mei dekhe." He said, grinning, recalling what took place in Durban Hall.
Welcome to Mewar, sister-in-law. We had feared our brother would never bring home a bride who could look him in the eye.
"Toh aapka dar ab khatam hua, kunvarsa. Hame umeed hai aapke bhaisa ka svabhimaan jaldhi theek ho jaye." Aaryavika's veil lifted just enough for her to smile faintly.
Then your fears are now at peace, Rajkumar. I believe your brother's pride will recover soon enough.
Laughter rippled through the small gathering, even Rudradev's lips curved slightly, though he said nothing.
Behind Aadityadev, a slender girl stepped forward, her anklets chiming. She was perhaps sixteen, her eyes bright and curious, Rajkumari Mrinalika Rathore, the king's youngest sister. Her joy was unguarded, her voice soft but earnest.
