The Rajvanshi Mansion shimmered like a jewel beneath the Diwali night sky.
Every archway was dressed in marigolds, fairy lights twinkled along the pillars, and the scent of ghee lamps mingled with freshly made sweets. Laughter spilled from the corridors, mixing with the soft hum of festive music.
Mahira stood near the living room's central table, arranging a silver thali of diyas. Her crimson silk saree caught the light with every movement, and a few strands of her hair had escaped her bun, curling softly around her face. She looked the picture of grace, poised, radiant, and completely unaware that someone was watching her with the kind of focus that made the air thicken.
That "someone" was Rudransh, standing by the doorway, his sleeves rolled up and his dark kurta half-unbuttoned.
"Jab jab tum diya jalati ho," he drawled lazily, "kasam se shama bhi jall uthti hai."
Every time you light a diya, I swear the flame gets jealous.
"Aarti se pehle itni taarif, Mr. Rajvanshi? How very pious of you." Mahira didn't even look up.
Flattery before the aarti, Mr. Rajvanshi?
"Taarif nahi." He walked toward her, hands in pockets. "Observation. You look... dangerous tonight."
Not flattery.
That made her glance up, arching an eyebrow. "Dangerous?"
"Like the kind of woman who could make a man forget there's a festival happening." He lowered his voice.
"Tumhe pata hai na tumhari maa bas 2 kamre door hai." She blinked, fighting a smile.
You do realise your mother is two rooms away?
"Hmm," he murmured, leaning closer, "then I'd better whisper."
