The monsoon clouds had drifted far north, and the skies over Mewar glowed like molten amber. The city below Chittor Fort pulsed with life; drums rolled, banners fluttered from ramparts, and the scent of marigold and sandalwood wafted through the air.
For the first time in years, the kingdom was not preparing for war. It was celebrating peace.
And at the heart of that peace stood Rana Rudradev Rathore and Rani Aaryavika Rathore, rulers of a united Rajputana.
The wide courtyard of Chittor's royal palace shimmered under a thousand oil lamps. Rows of dancers in mirrored skirts spun like stars, their anklets ringing against the marble. Children ran laughing through the crowd, while the bards of Mewar sang of courage, unity, and the night the two banners, Rathore and Solanki became one.
It was a night to mark the end of the Sultanate War and the beginning of a golden age.
From the high terrace above the court, Rudradev and Aaryavika stood side by side, dressed not as warriors but as sovereigns of peace.
He wore a white angarkha, the color of renewal, his sword sheathed and adorned with jasmine instead of steel. She stood beside him in a pale pink lehenga, the embroidery shimmering like sunrise over the dunes. Around her throat gleamed the Rajputana emerald, once worn by queens who had never seen peace, until her.
They watched the celebrations in silence, the sound of laughter and music rising up to meet the stars.
Aaryavika's fingers rested lightly on the marble railing, the wind catching the edge of her dupatta. Rudradev glanced at her and for a moment, he forgot the crown on his head, the kingdom below, the titles that weighed upon his shoulders.
He saw only the woman who had once walked toward him beneath a wedding canopy, her eyes defiant, her heart guarded and who now stood beside him, unguarded, unbroken, his equal in every way.
"Ajeeb hai na? Wahi aangan jo kabhi talvaaron ki aawaz se goonjta tha, ab hansi se goonj raha hai." Rudradev said softly.
It's strange, isn't it? The same courtyard that once echoed with the sound of swords now rings with laughter.
"Kadachit hansi hi vah shastra tha jiski Mewar ko hamesha se avashakta thi." Aaryavika smiled faintly.
Perhaps laughter was the weapon Mewar needed all along.
"Yadi kisi ne humse kaha hota ki shanti itni manmohak ho sakati hai, to humne pehle hi uske peeche daud lagadi hoti." He chuckled a deep, heartfelt sound.
If anyone had told me peace could be this beautiful, I might have chased it sooner.
"Aur yadi kisine hume kaha hota ki shaanti aisi dikhti hai... toh humne vishwaas kar liya hota." She gestured toward the crowd, the soldiers dancing with children, the widows adorned in fresh bangles again.
