~ Sneak-peak ~
The house was finally quiet.
Or at least, that's what Abhijeet liked to believe every night before reality proved him wrong.
He leaned back on the couch, running a hand through his hair, his shirt slightly crumpled from a long day at work. The faint scent of baby lotion and warm milk hung in the air. Kavya walked in a moment later, tying her hair into a messy bun and holding two mugs of coffee. Her soft cotton night suit had tiny daisies printed all over it, the same one she wore on nights she wanted to feel cozy.
"Here," she said, handing him the mug before curling up next to him. "Gira mat dijyega iss baar."
Don't spill it again this time.
"Ek baar huva tha bas. Aur technically Atharva ne giraya tha." Abhijeet chuckled, brushing her knee lightly.
That was one time. And technically, Atharva spilled it.
"Sure," she teased. "Us ek saal ke bacche ne kiya tha woh."
The one-year-old did it.
They laughed quietly, careful not to break the fragile peace that had descended over their home. Upstairs, their daughter Kavita was finally asleep or so they hoped. The bedtime battle had lasted an hour; three lullabies, two stories, and four "Mumma, ek last hug."
One last hug.
Kavya leaned back against Abhijeet's shoulder, feeling his warmth seep into her. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to simply exist, no deadlines, no presentations, no toddler tantrums. Just them.
She smiled faintly, her thoughts drifting back to years ago, to that impulsive night when everything had changed between them. She could still remember the way he'd looked at her, torn between guilt and longing, and the way her heart had leapt when he'd finally said the words she'd waited a lifetime to hear: I love you, Kavya.
