It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It was better.

Niall had picked me up in a limo, clutching a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine.

“How classy.” I had laughed, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. I was becoming so comfortable around him, I wasn’t used to being that way around anyone. But he made me feel so loved, like I actually deserved perfection.

We drove for a while before coming to an abrupt stop outside what I thought was an abandoned warehouse. The cold stung me as I stepped out of the car, and I was actually a little nervous.

“This is my surprise?” I asked, crossing my arms and wandering towards the graffiti covered building that looked as though it had been hidden for years. “An old abandoned building?”

Niall grinned and took my hand, rushing forward to the roller door around the side of the building.

“Just wait.” He winked, before pulling open the door and revealing the sight inside.

“Oh my God.” I mumbled, lifting my hands to my mouth and spluttering with laughter. “Oh, no way.”

It was a skating rink. And not just any old skating rink, it had a huge half pipe right in the middle and bumps and ramps around the whole place. It was huge, and there was music playing with red, blue and green lights highlighting the whole arena.

“I thought you could use the practise.” He shrugged, before heading inside and leaving me completely confused.

“What do you mea-”

But I stopped when I saw Niall’s driver carrying inside two skateboards, obviously one for me and one for him. And then I remembered the night I had stayed at Niall’s after the club incident, and I had told him about me trying to impress a guy I liked when I was fifteen. And how I had fallen off my skateboard…

“You’re so mean to me.” I exclaimed, laughing as I ran in after him and shoved him from the side. Niall wrapped his arms around my waist and spun me around quickly, before turning to face me.

“I wanna see how bad you were.” He laughed, taking the board from his driver and handing it to me.

“Go on!”

I rolled my eyes and took it off him, my heart skipping a few beats.

“How do you even remember that story?” I asked him, rolling the board around in my hand. He smiled.

“I remember everything you’ve told me.”

I turned around and headed toward the ramp then, because I didn’t want him to see me blushing red like a total idiot. I briefly wondered how Niall even knew this place existed, considering nobody else was here and it was so amazing, but I forgot about it when I reached the top of the ramp – it was really high.

“Um…you realize I can’t skate right?” I brushed my hair off my face and called down to Niall, feeling extremely worried about the height I was at. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot, grinning like he had just won the lottery.

“I have faith!” He yelled out, and I briefly noticed our driver exiting the building, meaning we were alone. I felt somewhat exhilarated now, which is probably why I did this next part.

Without hesitation, I threw the board underneath my feet and stepped on it, pushing off from the top of the ramp and sailing down to the bottom. And everything might have been okay if I hadn’t gotten too cocky.

“Oh my gosh! I actually did it!!” I yelled out, trying to pick up speed when I had reached the bottom. That was when I lost my footing and went flying onto the ground, the board sailing away from me. I slipped onto my back and clutched my knee.
