As far as I can remember, there was only one time in my life when I thought I was actually dreaming.
It was when I was turning ten years old and my parents had told me that they couldn’t afford to take me to a theme park for my birthday. I had understood, and they promised they would take there one day. So on my tenth birthday, they put me in the car and made me wear a blindfold. They told me they were driving to my grandmas and that I had to wear a blindfold because my present was in the back seat. When we finally stopped driving, they took off my blindfold and revealed our location.
They had taken me to a theme park. I felt like I was still asleep, having the craziest, weirdest dream of my life.
That was exactly how I felt now. Before I could say anything or even think properly, my grandad had ushered me out the door and closed it behind me, chuckling to himself. He knew I wouldn’t go if he didn’t literally force me to. Damn grandparents.
I wasn’t entirely sure what to do now, and looking at Harry certainly wasn’t helping me gather my thoughts. He was grinning at me, his hands in his pockets smugly as though he was happy he hadn’t let me get away.
“Hi Elli.” He murmured in a low voice, his eyes boring into my own.
Since I had now picked up on the fact that Harry Styles was actually standing on my doorstep, I finally came to my senses.
“What the hell…” I trailed off, my thoughts mushing together like gravy. None of this made any sense, at all. Harry must have known I would react this way, his dimples showing in his cheeks.
“Let me explain.” He said, taking me by the arm and pulling me down the steps of the balcony. I was so bewildered to what was going on that I didn’t even bother arguing. I looked out onto the road in front of me and noticed two big burly guys in black clothes standing in front of a black car with tinted windows, their expressions stony. They kept looking out behind them as though someone was going to pop out at any second.
Harry stopped at the front gate, leaning against it casually as though this was something he did every day.
“The radio place had your grandpa’s number written down. I figured you might have changed your mind, and maybe you do want to hang out tonight. So I called him and he said you’d be delighted. And here we are.”
He spoke rather slowly, sounding very confident in himself. I stood there for a moment, the wind making me shiver. I couldn’t say a word, I was still so confused as to why he had even bothered to call me. I was nothing special.
As though he read my mind, Harry quickly spoke.
“I figured since you’re from Australia you might not have seen London yet. We’d love to show you.”
At that moment, a car came screeching down the road. Then I heard the faint sound of screaming, a cheer almost. In a second the screams got louder, and it was then I saw the crowd approaching the house, a group of girls running for their dear lives.
In a second, the security guards made their move and briskly walked over to Harry.
“Let’s go. Now.” The burlier one put definitely, with the other putting his hands on Harry’s shoulders. I was literally too shocked to do anything, so I simply let Harry grasp my upper arm and pull me into the car, the screaming girls now only about ten metres away. One of them called out ‘Whose that girl?!’ but I didn’t hear what she said afterwards since one of the security guards had slammed the car door shut.
“Sorry. They follow us everywhere.” He put simply, throwing his legs up on his seat.
“Tell me about it.”
