The next twenty minutes was spent with the girls in the crowd asking the boys questions. Even if you didn’t count the questions being asked like ‘What do you look for in a girl?’ and ‘What’s your favourite hair colour on a girl?’ I found the whole experience extremely awkward. They were just sitting there less than two metres away, yet the whole thing was so formal. We were being filmed from every angle, the people from the radio surrounding us and laughing at the girls reactions every time the boys said something cute.
Which was a lot.
I spent a lot of time wondering why I was there. Lucy freaked out every time they were breathing, whereas I was checking my phone every two minutes to see when it would be over. I didn’t exactly fit in.
After a while, they told us the interview was over and now it was time for photos. I prayed that we didn’t have to be in these photos, but that was indeed what happened.
A man dressed entirely in white and an interesting looking black beard stepped in front of the boys whilst holding an expensive looking camera. He turned to the twenty girls anxiously waiting for their next instruction and threw back his shoulders.
“Right girls, we’re going to get a few of you up for photos to go on the front page of our website, then you’ll be allowed to meet One Direction.” He scanned the girls anxious faces in front of him, his eyes squinted. I kept my head down, feeling as though I was being picked for a cult.
My worst fears were confirmed when I heard the photographer call out ‘You!’
I looked up, he was looking right at me. Of course.
“Err, I’m not supposed to take photos for websites I mean my grandad might not approve of it.” I mumbled pathetically, and I saw the boys look at me and laugh.
“She’s embarrassed to take photos with us.” Harry grinned, feigning shock. I rolled my eyes and stepped forward, unwilling to argue.
The photographer picked out the two blonde girls sitting on the opposite end to me to also be in the photos, who looked more excited than they would if they found out Christmas was every day.
They ran up to the boys right away, hugging them and stating their love for them. I crossed my arms and stood to the side, waiting for the photographer to take the photo.
All of a sudden, a pair of arms were wrapped around me. Startled, I flinched and pulled away a little bit, noticing that the girls that were still seated were looking at me as though I was insane.
“Sorry, did that frighten you?” It was Harry. He pulled away and gave me a grin, before the photographer came up to the two of us.
“Plenty of time for that later guys, now Harry you come into the middle here.”
Giving me one last lingering look, Harry made his way to the middle of the group. I remained standing on the outer edge, unwilling to take part in this whole thing. I saw Lucy smiling up at me, looking kind of strange considering she was also crying.
Then I felt a hand on my upper arm, pulling me lightly towards the rest of the group.
“Don’t worry. Just a quick photo, just smile and pretend you’re enjoying yourself.” This boy was Irish, so I assumed he was Niall. I looked at him, his blue eyes shining back at me. His arm quickly slid around my waist, and I smiled back at him before posing a little less awkwardly.
Just as the photographer moved back to take the photo, he caught sight of me again.
“You.” He came over to me and pulled me into the middle of the group, right in-between Harry and Zayn. “Stand there. Perfect.”
