As soon as I set foot in the classroom, I knew I wouldn’t fit it.
It was my first day at College, my first class, philosophy, and already I wanted out.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of seats. There was hardly a single spot for me to sit, which stressed me out a lot. Everyone in the room had obviously already picked out their seats from lastsemester, leaving me at a complete loss.
And just as I had suspected, people in the room recognised me. Either that or they were just total bitches, because everybody had started whispering and I definitely caught the words ‘One Direction’ more than a few times.
Great.
I crossed my arms and leant against the door for a second, until the teacher noticed me.
“Ah! You must be Elli. Nice to meet you love, my names Ed, take a seat.”
He was probably around forty, very slim with bulgy eyes. He was wearing a polka dot shirt that looked like it had been transported right from the sixties.
I like him.
“Um, where do I sit?” I asked quietly, keeping my eyes far away from the girls at the back of the room who were staring me down. Ed sat himself down at the front of the room and crossed his legs.
“I say, you sit next to the person who you are most drawn to.” He put simply, closing his eyes at the end.
Oh goodie, he’s one of those imaginative teachers. I don’t like him as much now.
I sighed and hitched my bag higher on my shoulder before wandering to the other side of the room next to a boy wearing a tie dye shirt.
“Glad to see you’re drawn to me.” He whispered without living his eyes. I smiled at the desk, knowing I would like him. He was the only one in the room who wasn’t wearing uniform. I wasn’t sure why, but I also thought he would be very unlikely to know who One Direction are.
Always a plus.
“So what was it?” He asked, keeping his eyes to the board as Ed had begun writing stuff down. “My natural charm? Or my witty exterior?”
He had a nose piercing and better skin than me. I shook my head, smiling to myself.
“You look relatively normal. Plus, you’re cute.” I added, nudging him slightly. He sighed.
“Tell that to my boyfriend. Zero affection that boy. I’m Taylor by the way.”
And just like that, Taylor became my new best friend. Before the class was over, I made him give me the low down on the school, mainly because everyone in the room was still staring at me, whispering.
“Well, it’s not every day we get a celebrity in our midst.” He had winked and whispered to me, as Ed had gotten us to take out our books and start working.
“Ugh, you mean people actually recognise me?” I threw my head in my hands and sighed. “And there was me thinking things might be normal for a change.”
Taylor cupped his chin in his hands, smiling gleefully.
“Of course we recognise you! You do realize you were all over the papers for a good three days right? So is Zayn a good kisser?”
I rolled my eyes and grinned. “Thought you had a boyfriend?” I teased, beginning to copy down what Dan had written on the board.
“Forget him, I want all the details on One Direction!” He was grinning so angelically, it was hard to resist. But I sighed, going back to my work.
