I woke up very nervous on Saturday morning. Tonight was Shelly’s party, but that wasn’t the reason I was nervous. I would be seeing Niall again tonight, and for some reason it was putting me on edge.
At first I was convinced he wouldn’t want to come, but after texting nonstop the past few days, I was convinced he would show up. In fact, he had even mentioned Harry and Zayn making an appearance.
I had no idea what it was going to be like seeing Zayn again, but I prayed he had forgotten about what had happened, given he was so drunk.
But I knew there was no chance of that.
I jumped out of bed early, deciding to go down to the greenhouse since my grandad was already there. He had mentioned Lucy coming in today, and I hadn’t seen her in ages.
I quickly threw on an old pair of jeans, a jumper and my boots before heading out the door, welcoming the sight of the morning sun rising.
I arrived not long after, spotting Lucy straight away. She was wearing a bright blue checked dress, her golden hair gleaming in the sunlight. Her face lit up when she saw me.
“Elli!” She cried out, sprinting over to me and jumping into my arms.
“Lucy!” I laughed, spinning her around. She had gotten so much bigger than when I first met her five weeks ago. It was scary how fast everything was going here.
“I didn’t see you all week. Why do you have to go to boring school?” Lucy whined as I put her down, crossing her arms grumpily. I laughed.
“I need to learn! I have to get smarter.” I shrugged, walking inside the greenhouse with her. She had already begun planting her next set of flowers, as her previous ones had grown as tall as anything.
“You’re smart enough already Elli!” She exclaimed, falling to her knees as she begun digging furiously at the dirt.
“Be careful Lucy, you’re getting dirt all over your dress!” I laughed, helping her dig. “Is that a new one?” I asked, planting one seeds she had scattered next to her.
She kept digging vigorously.
“A man bought it for me. I was in the shopping centre with my nanny but she wouldn’t get it for me, so he bought it for me in secret. She doesn’t even know I’m wearing it.” Lucy giggled as I frowned.
“What man? You shouldn’t be talking to strangers Lucy!” I crossed my arms, angry that her nanny had let her out of her sight for even a second.
Lucy didn’t look phased though.
“It’s okay, I didn’t talk to him for long! He saw that I wasn’t allowed to buy the dress and then when my nanny was buying coffee, he gave me it! He told me not to say anything. He was really nice, but when he started asking me about where I lived I told him I had to go.” She put simply, planting a few more of her flowers.
I ran my hands through my hair, feeling upset.
“Lucy you gotta be careful okay? There are some bad people out there. I don’t want you talking to anyone like that okay?” I put sternly, slightly frustrated that Lucy was smiling.
“Okay I won’t. But he was nice!” She laughed, turning back to her flowers. I told myself that I would have to have a little talk with Lucy’s nanny, but I didn’t press on with the subject, since Lucy looked so happy.
We spent the rest of the day like that, talking and laughing about stupid things. I was kind of hoping the day would never end, since I was so nervous for tonight, but it eventually began to get dark.
When my grandad and I finally headed home, there was a bit of an awkward conversation in the car.
He cleared his throat and stared straight ahead, a sly glint in his eye.
“So you remember Mrs. Winterberry, the woman from the Greenhouse on Saturdays?” He asked me quietly, keeping his eyes on the road. I rolled my eyes.
“Oh yes, I remember her.” I answered dully, the memory of her bossing me around all day quite overwhelming. My grandad chuckled.
“Well I’m going to a dance with her tonight. Not really my style I’ll admit, but she was ever so keen. So I’ll be staying at her place tonight and should be back tomorrow afternoon sometime.”
He still hadn’t looked me in the eye, lucky since I was grinning like anything.
“A bit of a date grandad?” I nudged him on the arm laughing. He smiled briefly, before raising his voice a little.
“Well you’re not one to talk are you, why does this Niall boy seem so keen on coming over, ey?” He chuckled, nudging me back. I stayed quiet after that.
I was welcomed to a phone full of messages, the majority of them from Shelly, which was fantastic.
‘WHAT DO I WEAR????’
‘u sure their coming babe cos ive told a few more people...’
‘hope u don’t mind if i try and hook up with niall hahaha love you babe’
The last one made me pretty unreasonably pissed off.
And it was then I realized why I was so on edge.
Niall was going to be at a party with the most popular girls at my college. The most beautiful girls you could ever see. I mean sure, people have me believing that I fit in with them but they are the type of girls who are willing to cake their faces with makeup and wear the sluttiest thing they can in order to hook up with a guy.
Although it is a tad hypocritical on my part, given the whole Zayn thing.
But still. What if he did decide to hook up with Shelly?
Not that I’d care.
I don’t think.
I shouldn’t have told him about this stupid party in the first place.
Well, at least it was going to be a small party. Shelly had assured me only a few people would be there.
I prayed to God that she wasn’t lying.
