We arrive at the hotel half an hour later, a lot earlier than we intended but still just as nervous and excited.
Niall takes hold of my hand as we step out of the car, and just as I expected, there are paparazzi waiting for us. I keep my head down but can’t hide my smile as the two of us stride inside the building, looking quite strange as I am still in my formal dress and Niall in half a suit.
They manage to get a lot of photos of us going into the hotel together as well, because Niall convinced his security that they didn’t need to stay in the hotel with us. We both agreed it would be a bit of a buzz kill having five grown men in the room next to us.
Once we are inside, I realize just how much money Niall has spent on this place. It is like a freaking palace. I’m almost convinced that the Queen of England herself will walk down the hallway.
“You’re amazing, you know that?” I muse, taking in the beautifully painted marble walls, the huge banisters that lead up to a spiralling double staircase that reminds me of Titanic.
He leads me up the staircase and stops at the top, taking both my hands in his lightly. His stare takes to mine again, his blue eyes sparkling.
“You remember me saying I had to tell you something?” He asks, and I nod my head hesitantly.
Honestly, I had kind of forgotten. I’ve been too concentrated on getting to our room...that, and all the power at our dance had unexplainably been turned off, creeping me out a little.
But I push all that aside, because Niall parts his lips a little and exhales softly, looking at me in a way he has never done before.
“Well, I’m going to say it now.” He says quietly, reeling me into him softly. I’m scared he can hear my heart beating, since it’s going insane. I don’t break his stare, not even to admire the spot he has chosen to situate me, the top of a beautiful staircase that makes me feel like a princess.
“I wanted to say this someplace nice.” He carries on. I can see him fidgeting, he’s nervous. I smile to encourage him, running my hands in his softly. “And I know we’re not on some beach Hawaii, or on a boat in Venice or on top of the Eiffel Tower...but my point is, I want to do all those things with you one day Elli. And I figured this place isn’t so bad, I remember you telling me you love Titanic so it kind of fits.”
My heart beat has gone into overdrive now, and I can’t take note of anything around me. I am completely mesmerized by the boy in front of me.
“I love you. I really love you.” I hear him say quietly.
I don’t even need to say anything, because my face says it all. I press my lips against his softly, only once, enough to take in what he has just said and fully contemplate how on earth I have managed to be so lucky. I keep hold of his hands and pull away softly, my forehead resting against his, our hearts both beating as fast as each others.
“For the record, you could have said that down a dirty alleyway and it still would have meant the world to me.” I smile, and Niall laughs loudly, wrapping his arms around my waist. I look up at him, my eyes sparkling. “I love you too.”
And then suddenly, every barrier is lowered. The very few insecurities I felt around Niall have completely diminished, and every doubt I had about our relationship working out is gone. It instantly does not matter that all the lights mysteriously turned off at our dance, or that I have a niggling fear in the back of my mind that something odd is going on. All that matters in this moment is that we love each other, and that everything is going to be okay.
Hand in hand, we make our way to room 106, on the top floor of the building. As if it were even possible, this room is more exquisite than the hotel itself, bound in ruby red curtains and an open balcony that overlooks the whole of London.
Wordlessly, the two of us don’t let go of our hands as we make our way to the bed in the middle of the room, a frantic action that we have both been wanting for quite some time now. He is so careful with me, holding me as though I am a porcelain doll that could break at any second.
I can’t stop smiling and kissing him, he is everything I want and more. He keeps asking me if I am okay, but I insist by nodding my head over and over, and eventually he begins to understand that I want this just as much as he does.
We don’t speak as he unzips the back of my dress, kissing my collarbone and down my neck. He wastes no time in taking off his own formal outfit, until the two of us are both exposed, his flesh on mine causing my heart to respond widely.
“Are you sure you’re-”
“Niall!” I laugh, kissing him tenderly once more. “This is perfect.”
And it’s true. This moment, this beautiful moment is the closest I have come to perfection in my life. I wish I could hold onto the memory forever, preserve it where no one except Niall and I can find it.
And if I knew what was to happen next, I never would have let him go.--
