There's something about being a kid that is so euphoric.

You feel untouchable, like nothing can hurt you or affect you. You never worried about anything, you only went with the flow and appreciated life for what it truly is.

I remember this one time when I was seven years old, I somehow managed to climb onto the roof of my house. I didn't realize how high up the roof was, I just wanted to see what the world looked like from a higher perspective. I knew that jumping down would cause some sort of danger, but it was as though I didn't care.

My dad had climbed onto the roof after me and carried my down, insisting that I never climb up there again.

He was protecting me from danger, from things that could hurt me in my life.

Well, my parents aren't around to help me anymore. And now, I feel like a kid again. I am walking right into the face of danger, and there is nothing that will stop me. I know what lies ahead, I know that following the steps of the unknown text message may very well lead me to my death, but I can't stop myself.

It just needs to be over.

I follow the instructions of the text message carefully, not wanting to make a wrong move. I had caught a taxi to the Greenhouse and now I am out the front, my heart beating at a million miles an hour. I told myself not to, but I can't stop thinking of Niall. If I could do anything different, I would have told him what was going on. I would have let him know how scared I am that I am about to die, and that all I want is to be with him forever.

But I didn't. I couldn't have, or he would have been in the same situation as me. Maybe a lot more danger.

Slowly, I take a deep breath in and wander over to the front of the Greenhouse, the moonlight shining down on me from above. It is frosty and I misjudged just how cold it would be on my way here. I can't believe I'm thinking it, but I'm going to miss being cold. I'm going to miss wandering outside on Winter's mornings, watching my grandad as he reads the morning paper. I'm going to miss waking up in my bed, the crisp but worn sheets familiar to me. I'm going to miss Taylor and Tony, the ways they managed to make me feel like I was just another normal teenager.

I'm going to miss Niall.

I take a deep breath in as I open the front gate of the Greenhouse, closing it silently behind me. I'm not sure what I'm expecting to see. For all I know, this whole place could blow up at any second. I could be shot dead.

I inhale deeply as I step forward, my main concern right now being Lucy. If she is here, the best I can do is plead with Charlie, the killer of my parents, to let her go.

She's only a child. She needs to experience life the way I have.

"Lucy?" I call out through the echoing glass room, my voice bouncing off each wall as the frost picks up. There is no reply.

The silence has begun to consume me, turn my thoughts completely irrational. I'd like to think that I am peaceful in my own death, but I'm not. I'm scared as anything. I have no idea what to do. I don't want to die, but it seems like the only way out.

As I take another step forward into the empty room I have grown so accustomed to over the past few months, I hear it. I series of footsteps coming from the back of the Greenhouse, matching my own slow march.

I think of Niall now, what he must be thinking right now. He would have known by now that I have run off. I'm hoping that he just assumes I got emotional seeing my 'killer' in custody, and that I disappeared out of fear. He wouldn't think to check here for me.

He's safe, and that's all that matters.

"Listen." I plead quietly, my voice shaking as I call through the room once more. "You can have me. Just let Lucy go."

The sound of the footsteps getting closer are even more menacing than the silence. I feel my breath get hitched in my throat as a low laugh erupts throughout the room, dark and echoing.

"I thought you were smarter than this Elli."

The words rip through me like a bullet, and I immediately become paralysed to the spot. There, only about ten metres away from me stands the man who killed my parents. I have zero doubt in my mind it is him, I would recognise those eyes anywhere. They pierce through me, menacing and downright evil as the man steps towards me again, his moves slow and daunting. I can't breathe. I can't move. I can't even think.

I can't help but let my mind drift back to that night all those months ago, when I had been so terrified for my life. The night that everything was taken away from me by the man standing in front of me. And here I am, about to give in.

My first inclination is to run away, as fast as humanly possible. But my thoughts drift back to Lucy, and how this heartless and dangerous man could possibly be holding her captive.

"Just let her go." I try to call out, but my voice is barely more than a shaky whisper as I feel my knees threatening to give way. Again, the low yet powerful laugh tears through the Greenhouse, louder this time.

"She's not here. I knew you wouldn't come unless you had someone to save, you're too noble for that. I had to lie."

Now I really feel sick. Lucy isn't here. I am completely alone. Without hesitation I pick up my heels and sprint towards the exit, but then I hear the click of a gun and my heart stops beating again.
