The impact still echoed across the city when the swirl of wind and frost split the plaza apart. Clouds of vapour spiralled up toward the painted skies, ribbons and petals torn loose by the blast still dancing on the currents.
Fuyune's scythe spun in her grip, frost crackling along its edge as she landed in a crouch, her narrowed eyes locked on her opponent. Across from her, Selene hovered several meters above the shattered stones, her white cloak billowing, and her feet barely grazing the air as if gravity held no claim on her.
The air between them buzzed with volatile pressure, neither willing to take the next step yet neither backing down. Selene's hands, elegant and sure, twirled her rifle with ease. She gave a theatrical curtsy mid-air, the wind lifting her braid like a dancer's ribbon.
"Oh, how exhilarating," she sang, her eyes gleaming. "You're so much more fun than the last dozen Skyborne I sparred with. None of them come close, whether from range or close combat," she said, eyeing Fuyune's scythe.
Fuyune's response was the steady sound of frost forming around her boots, her breath visible despite the morning sun. "...and you're more obnoxious than I expected," she said, deadpan. "...even for an Aero mink," she said.
"Oooh, she talks back~" Selene crooned, flipping upside down mid-air before twirling right-side up. Her rifle angled with a whispering hiss. "Now I definitely want you all to myself," she said, aiming at Fuyune.
*Bang*
*WHIRR*
With a sharp snap, Selene fired again. The bullet wasn't straight, but it curved mid-flight, riding the slipstream of a sudden breeze that burst from her rifle like an extension of her intent.
But Fuyune saw it. Observation haki surged behind her eyes as her scythe moved in a flash, cleaving the bullet mid-air. Ice blossomed along the redirected arc, turning the bullet into frozen shrapnel that glittered harmlessly behind her.
