Levi grew tense and cleared his throat while he shifted on his feet. He looked at everyone that were gathered in the room, and I could feel his heartbeat picking up in his chest through his shirt. "Ummm, please be seated, everyone," he said nervously. "Thank you for... bowing and submitting to u- well, me. I do appreciate it. I am sure that this hasn't been easy on anyone." He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet, holding me tighter against him as if I would be able to protect him from the throngs of people that were waiting for him to lead this meeting. "Please, be seated. I promise that this won't take up too much of your time."
There were a few murmurs from the people that were gathered there while they sat back down, leaving the chair I had been sitting in before he came over to the house open for the two of us. No one said an actual word and stared at us, expectantly, most, if not all, looking directly at him and ignoring me.
"I don't know what updates to bring you or anything, so I do not know why you are all looking at me," Levi said and shook his head while he walked over to the single chair of the room. "I have been kept in the dark on most of this, so I am sorry about the lack of knowledge that I am bringing to the table."
"Don't be, Alpha," one of the Elders said with a shake of his head. "However, you are still the Alpha of this pack, even though I am sure that we all can agree that we do have two Alphas and have had them for quite a while." His gaze rested on my back, but I made no move to look at him.
Levi chuckled a little and nodded. "Yes," he said and licked his lips, hesitating ever so slightly. "I am sure that we have had two Alphas for a while, one of which knows more about what is going with the pack than the other." He squeezed my sides when he said that, and I rolled my eyes and scowled without saying a word.
"Yes, even though the second one is a pain in the ass to work with," Salem said, and I instantly looked at them with an annoyed look on my face. They grinned and flashed me a small smirk and a wink before they turned to look at my mate. "And I do hope that you are much more... level headed than the other."
"Salem," I warned while a few of my pack members growled at them, and Salem instantly looked at me with wide eyes filled with nervousness and fear. "Knock it off, especially since you are in a pack full of wolves that will eat you for breakfast if they have to to protect their Alphas' honor."
The nervousness and fear seemed to have completely left Salem's face when I said something, and it was replaced with a smirk that got underneath my skin. "Oh come now, Alex, Dear," they all but purred, and I had to keep myself from growling out in annoyance and anger. "They can't kill me. Hell, they can't even hurt me either."
"And why not?" Levi asked. He made it to the chair and set me down in it before he pushed me to the side and sat down beside me, looking at Salem with a small scowl on his face. "And who are you?"
"I guess the best question to ask besides all of those is what am I?" Salem asked, ignoring the warning look that I sent their way. They didn't look in my direction, and a smug look appeared on their face while they gained the confidence they needed to do whatever the hell they needed to do. "And I am a shifter. I can shift into any form both animal and person. It doesn't matter if I have only crossed paths with one one time or many. I can take their form and use it to my advantage."
They shifted so that they looked like me, earning a few startled gasps from those that did not know them and a small growl from me, which they promptly ignored.
"See?" they asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "It is a fun birthday trick that I can do." They flashed him a small smirk and a wink before they started to act a little more like me than normal. "And it is more fun to act like those that you have encountered on a regular basis, such as Alexandra." They gestured toward me in a way that I would normally gesture toward them.
