"That is fine," the Elder said and bowed his head, submitting to us, mainly me, as if he didn't want to piss me off further. He cleared his throat while he shifted in his seat. "Now, are we able to talk about what is going on now between the two of you, or is that something that we can not discuss for whatever reason to protect you both?"
I dug my claws further into my mate's back when the Elder asked that, and my mate was basically a saint and didn't flinch at all. I didn't say a word and pressed my lips into a thin line, not knowing what it was that he wanted to talk about and hoped that it was nothing about what was going on between me and Levi, at this very moment, when I didn't fully understand it myself.
"What did you want to talk about, Elder Whitchawk?" Levi asked and shifted a little in his seat, and I could tell that he was getting nervous for some reason. "Did you want to have Lex as your only Alpha, o-"
"Oh, no, no, no, Alpha," Elder Whitchawk said and chuckled with a shake of his head, interrupting Levi from saying anything. "As my companions and I have said, we have two powerful and smart Alphas, and we have had them for quite a while."
"Again, the pack is better off to have two Alphas after everything is taken care of, especially since one of our Alphas is the adopted daughter of the king and is considered a princess already," another of the Elders said, gesturing toward me, and I couldn't help but grow stiff. "We are the second strongest pack besides the king's pack, and I am sure that if we fall, then they will fall next."
Levi grew tense and pulled me closer to him. He moved his head until it was closer to where I would be the only one to hear him, and I stayed silent and waited for him to get his thoughts in order so that he could ask me his question. "Is it true?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Is what she said true? Will they fall if we fall?"
"Yes," I said and nodded, mumbling underneath my breath. "What she said is true. If we fall, then you can be sure that all of the packs and kingdoms will fall with it. It had been hard work to get us where we are, but I had a lot of help from everyone."
"Just not me," Levi said, growing bitter and guilty over everything that had happened. "You didn't have the actual Alpha t-"
"You stayed alive, Levi," I said, interrupting him with a shake of my head. "You stayed alive for me and tried to do what you could to help. That's all that I had ever needed from you and will ever need from you until you are out from under their control."
Levi pressed his lips to the side of my head and kissed it. He didn't say a word, but I could tell that he was grateful that I told him that while I tried to alleviate some of his fear and worry, especially since he was still under their control with no way to escape.
Finally, after a few more minutes, my claws slowly started to transform back into fingers, and I was able to remove my hands from my mate's back, much to my and my mate's relief.
"Better?" Levi asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he pressed a small kiss to the side of my head, and a small smile appeared on his face while he pulled me away from him so that he could take a look at my face.
I bit back an annoyed sigh before I slowly nodded, pressing my lips into a thin line. "As fine as I will ever be," I said with a small grumble in my voice. I moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I rubbed the bridge of my nose. "I am sorry. I hope that you can forgive me fo-"
"Hush," Levi said with a small chuckle in his voice, interrupting me before he placed a small kiss on my lips, and I couldn't help but kiss him back, not caring that we had a lot of eyes on us. He pulled away just a bit so that we could talk and kept his mouth next to mine. "I know that you didn't mean it, and I am happy that I was able to help."
