One Week Later

{Soul's POV}

"Y/n's in love! Y/n's in love!" Patty sang in y/n's face on the other side of the room, with Liz, Tsubaki and Maka all laughing while y/n just stared at them wide-eyed, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"Hey, Soul..." Blackstar said in a solemn tone. I took my gaze away from the girls and looked towards Blackstar, who was standing next me with his eyes on the ground. "Do you think Kids gonna be alright?"

Oh right, Kid. After the incident at the nightclub Dr.Stein wanted to have him checked out in case any remnants of the madness was left on him, but Lord Death wouldn't let him. Instead, he insisted that the young reaper stay at home till he felt better, whatever 'better' was.

I smirked at Blackstar confidently. "Of course I do, he is a reaper after all. If they were that easy to take down, there'd probably be a lot more Kishins running around."

Blackstar grinned, and shoved two thumbs ups in the air.

"What am I saying?! Of course he's gonna be alright! How else would I be able to fight him again?!"

"Yeah, that's the spirit," I chuckled, patting his back.

In reality, I had no idea if Kid was going to be okay, I didn't even know what was wrong with him. The only sign we had that he'd recover was the fact Lord Death said so, which would be enough, if the victim didn't happen to be his kid.

Who knows how far Lord Death would go to make sure his one and only kin didn't die, or worse...

"Soul? Soul!"

"Huh?" I was torn from my thoughts by y/n's hand waving in my face.

"Y/n? What is it?"

She frowned. "You've been standing here staring into space for ages. Are you alright?"

I examined the room and realized everyone had left, and my front door was wide open.

"Yeah," I said, and gave her a small one-sided smirk.

She raised a brow.

"Convincing," she replied sarcastically. She turned on her heel and began to walk out of our apartment.

"Call me when you feel like talking to someone, okay?" she turned to face me and smiled sweetly.

"Hey... Y/n?"

Her smile faded. "Yeah?"

"You know when Kid... Attacked, you... Why didn't you fight back? I'm sure you could've beaten him."

She shrugged. "You don't know that for certain. In another circumstance, yeah I probably could. But something was wrong with Kid, he was a lot stronger than usual."

I nodded, but she wasn't done.

"And plus... It's Kid. I don't think I could ever fight one of my friends intentionally, and even though the 'thing' that, as you said, attacked me wasn't really Kid... I don't know, I guess something was holding me back."

We might have left the conversation there, but I couldn't help myself. I had to ask.

"Like what?"

"Huh?" she looked up at me, she was clearly distracted by her own thoughts.

"What could've held you back?"

She twisted we lips and furrowed her brows, trying to sum up an answer.

"I don't know, something," she laughed, then continued her way out the door and onto the streets.

"I think I know what held you back..." I mumble sadly. It was clear; she was in love with Kid.

"Of course you know what held her back, dimwit."

I nearly jumped out of my skin by Maka's sudden presence.

"It's rude to sneak up on people," I remarked as I turned to face my Meister, who was standing with her arms crossed.

"So? You're my weapon, you should've felt my wavelength." She leaned forward as a mischievous expression made an appearance on her face. "Or were you a bit distracted?"

"Shut up." I scowled.

She huffed and shook her head lightly. "Soul, you know y/n loves Kid, but don't pretend you don't realize how she feels about you too."

I rolled my eyes and stared at the floor. "That just makes it more difficult. If she only loved one of us, than the other could move on. But, fighting for her feelings instead? It's so much more tiring..."

I felt her hand on my shoulder, and looked up to see sympathetic eyes and a warm smile.

"Just remember to keep your priorities straight, okay? Even if in the end she does choose Kid, that's her decision, and if she chooses you, remember to be kind to Kid, even if he isn't kind in return."

I nodded and smiled. She threw her arms around my neck and hugged me tightly, much to my surprise.

"Thank you, Soul," she said out of nowhere.

"For what?"

She pulled her head back and smiled at me teary-eyed.

"For always helping me, no matter the consequence. You're better than any weapon I could have ever wished for. Take care of yourself."

I chuckled. "What are you talking about, Maka? Im the weapon, it's my job to take care of you."

She shook her head an pulled her arms back. "You're a good guy, Soul. You need to care of yourself, okay?"

She held her hand up between us, waiting for me to shake it.

I smirked, clasped her hand in mine and shook it.

"I always do."
