Chapter 12

{Your POV}

"Y/n's awake?! Is she here?!" you heard Kid yell when he barged into the infirmary door. You were still in the bed- even though you had begged for the nurse to let you leave, feeling utterly restless- and had Tashida sitting next to your pillow with his arm over your shoulder, Maka and Tsubaki at the end of your bed, Black Star sulking in a corner with a large Maka-chop shaped hole in his head and Soul leaning against the wall to your right casually. Kid looked you up and down and immediately rushed to your side.

"Oh my god, y/n, you're not in pain, are you?!" he questioned frantically, kneeling down on the floor and running his thumb along your bruised and scabbed knuckles. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there to help you... O-or here when you woke up!"

You were about to tell him it was okay when Soul began speaking. "Kid was waiting here the entire time you were unconscious, it was just an unlucky coincidence he left at the same time as Tashida, just before you woke."

Everyone stared at Soul with wide eyes. You weren't blind, you were somewhat aware of the situation; Kid and Soul kinda liked you, and you liked them back, right?

So, if they were fighting over you, why would Soul defend Kid?

This confused everyone.

You looked back at Kid, who was staring at Soul with his jaw gone slack. You took your hand from Kids, and he looked over at you curiously before you cupped his cheek in your hand.

"Thank you, Kid," you soothed gratefully, smiling at him. He blushed and shut his eyes, smiling faintly.

There was a moment of still silence before Tashida spoke up.

"By the way, Kid, where did you go?" he inquired.

Kid stiffened, and opened his eyes. "I had some unanswered questions I needed to ask my father."

"Oh yeah!" Maka chirped happily. "Y/n, turns out you and Tashi will be staying at our for a little longer!"

Your heart dropped, and you worried you might over-stay your welcome. You didn't want to annoy Maka and Soul.

You took your hand away from Kid- he groaned in dismay- and placed it back on your lap. "Oh no, that's okay guys, we don't wanna intrude any longer, right?" you looked up at Tashida for backup.

"Yeah, y/n's right, you guys have been so hospitable already, it would be rude."

"Well that seems fortunate. Kid, didn't you want them to stay at ours?" Liz said, suddenly in the room, surprising everyone. Her and Patty just entered the infirmary during your conversation so quietly that they went unnoticed. "By the way, y/n, you alright?"

You nodded and grinned proudly, making Liz chuckle.

"W-well, I-I um..." Kid stuttered adorably.

"Yeah! Tashida! Y/n! Ple-e-e-e-ease stay with us?!?" Patty pleaded.

You giggled and looked to Maka for a response, but she simply shrugged happily. "Whatever, if Lord Death says its okay."

Patty jumped up and down excitedly. "I'll go ask him!" she squealed giddily before zooming out the door. Liz smiled awkwardly before running after her younger sister.

When you looked back at Kid, he was smiling faintly to himself, his cheeks tinted pink. You grinned and looked over at Soul, who was watching you with sad eyes, but he quickly looked away.

"Y/n?" you heard a sweet elderly voice and looked over to see a short, plump old lady with wrinkled skin and sparkly eyes smiling at you. "If you let me replace and remove some of your bandages, you should be free to go," the old nurse said kindly.

Your heart eagerly leapt for joy.

[Time Skip]

The sun's heat smothered your bare skin, causing shadows on the grey stone ground of the courtyard. You stood with Maka, Soul, Kid, Patty, Liz and Tashida-who were standing awfully close to each other.

"Thank you so much for having us; Maka, Soul," you said, smiling at the two. Maka beamed back, but Soul only smiled sadly. You gave Maka a quick hug, and hesitated before pulling Soul into your arms and squeezing him as hard as you could. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around your waist, hugging you back.

Tashi coughed and you pulled apart awkwardly, laughing faintly and staring at the ground.

"We should get going," Liz said.

You glanced up at Soul, and he glanced at you as well. He gave you a toothy grin and a small salut, making you laugh.

Tashi grabbed your arm and dragged you away, sighing hopelessly. You giggled and waved goodbye to Soul and Maka before turning around and walking to Kid's alongside Tashi, snatching your arm out of his grasp.

"Loser," you muttered and gave him a small shove.

"Dweeb," he replied replied and shoved you back.

"Dumbo."

"Lovebird."

"Shut up."
