Chapter Twelve
“What do you mean I can’t see her?!” I shouted into the phone.
I had been on the phone with Judy for the past half hour. I couldn’t go the day of Louise’s fifth birthday because I had been too busy for it and been preoccupied with moving. Now that I actually had time to give her own birthday present, Judy wasn’t letting me see my own freaking sister. Why, I had no clue, but I was going to get an answer out of her.
“Because, Aletta, you are incapable of doing anything right now. You’re probably drunk and not feeling okay. All those rumors probably got to your head. You’re unstable, and I can’t have that around Louise,” Judy tsked me.
“I don’t drink!” I screamed. “I’ve never touched something alcoholic other than wine when my foster mother took me out to a fancy restaurant when I turned eighteen.”
“And now you’re screaming at me. Who knows, you’d probably scream at Louise for stepping the wrong way. I can’t have that, Aletta. Goodbye. Call me when you’re sober and not angry.”
“Oh, you mother fu-”
The dial tone rang in my ear. I felt rage build in my chest. I took the pillow beside me, shoved it in my face and let out the loudest scream I could manage. She did not just hang up on me!
Niall rested a hand on my shoulder. “Hey, love. Do you mind if I try?”
“Try what?” I raised an eyebrow at him curiously.
“I want to try and see if I could take Louise out for the park,” Niall explained.
I was still confused, but wasn’t..?
“And of course, you’ll be with us. What, did you think I wouldn’t take you with?” he laughed, pressing his lips against mine. “That way you can see her.”
“Thank you Niall,” I told him quietly.
“Now, give me the number.”
I recited Judy’s number to Niall by heart as he punched it into his phone. He grinned at me, smiling as his crystal blue eyes lit up with mischievousness. He pressed the phone against his ear and wiggled his eyebrows at me.
“Uh, hello? Yeah, yeah, this is Niall Horan,” Niall spoke into the phone. “Yeah, yeah, I’m from One Direction. Haha, Yeah, the famous one. Oh, yeah. I had some of my managers doing some research and I was wondering if I could take Louise out for a little bit. You know, just us two. We’ll go to the park. No, I’m not a pervert. I have a girlfriend, ma’am. I don’t like little girls unless they’re my sisters. No, I don’t have any. Yes, I would treat Louise as if she was my sister. Yes ma’am, spoiling her is included. Yes, I was thinking ice cream. No sherbet? Okay. Thank you so much, Judy. I appreciate it. You too, have a nice day.”
Niall turned to me, a smirk as his victory. “She said yes.”
“She what?” my eyes widened.
Niall laughed at me as he swung his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into a side hug. “She was really questioning my motives at first. She thought I was some child rapist or something. Then, she started asking me questions about how I would treat Louise. Then she said, ‘Oh, you are such a sweetheart! Go ahead take her.’ Is she always that nice?”
I shook my head slowly. “She’s a witch from hell.”
Niall shook his head laughing. “Go get dressed, babe.”
My heart practically lept when he called me babe. One of the many upsides to having a boyfriend. I’ll tell you that one is probably my favorite. Well, besides being with Niall of course. That was the best benefit to having a boyfriend.
