Recap:

“Watching Dirty Dancing, why?”

The moment I mentioned Dirty Dancing, Niall told me to get on skype on my phone and that we have to skype so he could watch the movie with me. Honestly, it made me giggle like a girl. For the rest of the night, Niall and I skyped each other whenever he wasn’t busy, which was probably once every thirty minutes or so. My night was highlighted by my wonderful boyfriend I’m proud of and eventually, I forgot about my allergies

Chapter Fifteen

September twenty-one

Waking up today was easier. My throat wasn’t so clogged up with mucus and other substances that were troubling my breathing. However, the coughing didn’t subside at all. If anything, it increased at a rate that aggravated me. Niall sent me a sweet text message, saying that yesterday, they did a lot more work than they expected and the days they were going to be gone were shortened. By the end of the day, he’d be on a plane back to London. He would be home late tonight.

I was ecstatic I got to see my boyfriend today. The few days without him felt like hell. I missed his hugs, I missed his Irish accent, and I missed those crystal blue eyes. I missed him more than words could explain.

Sighing deeply, I decided that an orange pair of sweatpants and a white v-neck shirt would be a great outfit today. After digging out the outfit and slipping into it, I lifted the hair on top of my head and tied it together with a nearby hair tie that was lying around. I headed into the kitchen to start making tea for my sore, and scratchy throat. Tea always helped with sore throats and coughing – especially if it had honey mixed in with it.

Boiling some tea, I scrolled through my phone, checking any missed messages or voicemails. There had been one new message from Niall, and I smiled involuntarily.

[Niall; hey babe what are you up to?]

My fingers began flying across the phone’s keyboard as I replied to Niall’s text message.

[Me; I’m just making some tea for my sore throat. Then I don’t know what I’m going to do. I have all day to do something.. Gr]

After my water stopped boiling, I pulled a mug out from a cupboard and a teabag as well as the sugar. I took two and a half spoonfuls of sugar and deposited it in the scorching water. After stirring it for fifteen seconds, I dropped the tea bag into the mug and left the kitchen.

Just as I sat down on the couch and set my tea mug on the coffee table, my phone began ringing. I looked at the caller I.D – Judy was calling.

I immediately answered the phone call. “Hey, Judy, what’s up?”

“Joe and I are going out of town for a week, Allie. We’ve tried sending Louise to another foster home so they could take care of her while we’re gone, but none of them are available and no one we know would take her.  You’re the only person we know that can. Will you please take care of her? No one has to know about this.

Please, Allie. We really need to leave town for a while.”

I could tell there was a sense of urgency in Judy’s voice, and for a split second, that worried me. Something was up. I could detect it all in her voice. I wanted to question it, but this was my only chance to actually get to know my little sister.

“Sure,” I finally decided, knowing fully well that Nialler wouldn’t mind having Louise over for a week.

“Send her over whenever you can.”

“I can be there in fifteen minutes,” Judy said. “Thank you so much for this, Allie. We mean it, both Joe and I.”

After a couple more minutes of discussion, Judy hung up the phone, leaving me in slight wonder of what just happened. Immediately, I noticed something fishy going on. Something odd was going on Judy. She wouldn’t just hand Louise over to me so easily, and for week? Something was definitely going on. Judy wouldn’t be that lenient on handing over Louise to me. She would rather cut herself to the brink of death than hand Louise over to me.
