I Want to Forget

Chapter 16

I arrived at school on Monday. All my friends greeted me like normally. We talked at the quad until it was time to go to class. When I arrived in Mr. Soule's class and sat at my seat everything was normal. Except that Toby wasn't here. It was typical, for some reason he wasn't normally here on Mondays. I was sad he wasn't here, but I knew I would see him tommorrow. I go through first and second period like normal. During morning recess I grab my books out of my locker and head towards the quad. I walked through the exit and saw Lina standing at the flag pole.

"Hey Lina," I greet her.

"Oh hi Paris," she replies normally," Oh by the way, Toby moved." I stare at her, not saying a word. I hold back my tears.  I don't know why I didn't want to cry, but I just didn't want to.

"R-really?" I ask finally speaking.

"Yeah. Are you ok?"

"Uh y-yeah, I'm fine...." I lie.  Lina walks away.  Toby moved?  I mean he did talk about probably moving, but I thought it would happen towards the end of the year.  No, he isn't gone.  She was lying, or she probably got the wrong information.  It is a normal day.  Completely normal.

I was in my English class, on this completely normal Monday morning.

"Toby?"the teacher asks going through attendance," Oh yeah he moved."  I cringe.  Crack!  That was my heart, slowly breaking.  Why was it breaking?  Toby was obviously just absent.  I am sure he would have said something to me.  We are friends, or at least I thought we were.  For the rest of the completely normal day, I kind of just sat through class, not thinking of Toby(well until now).  He wasn't gone.  Toby can't leave.  When I come to school tommorrow, he was going to be there, waiting to copy off of my assingment in Mr. Soule's class.  Well that didn't happen.  Toby was still not at school.  I bet he is sick.

"Hey Paris," Jackie greets me solemnly in Mr. Soule's class.

"Hi," I reply chirpily.

"Oh, I guess you don't know what happened...."

"What happened?" I ask with a smile on my face.

"Well Toby moved...."

"Oh I know."

"And you aren't even a little upset?" Jackie asks dumbfounded.

"Nope," I shake my head.

"Really?"

"Yep, I am absoulutley fine."

"Uhh ok.....I guess I believe you." Jackie continues to work. Why didn't she believe me? I mean Toby is coming back. Right? The rest of the day I stayed positive and optimistic. Toby is coming back. I don't know when, but soon.

It was now January and it was time to go to science camp! Too bad Toby missed it, but he will probably be back in school once we come back. After the long bus ride, we finally arrive. Lately my friends have been acting weird with me lately. They act like I am upset about Toby moving. I am upset, but I know he will come back.

"I am so excited!" I squeal.

"Me too, I hope all of us are in the same cabin," Summer replies.

"I hope so too." Turns out we were all in the same cabin. Summer, Kailah, Lina, Rose, Jackie, some other girl, and myself. We didn't want Jackie in our cabin, but she wasn't able to pick a partner because she was late turning in the forms.
