Caera enjoyed the wind now much more than when flying with Faolan. It seemed less sharp when it hit her. Also the warm, soft fur underneath her was a lot more appealing than Devlin’s cold, hard body.
‘Devlin, you drink blood, right?’ Caera suddenly asked.
‘Uh, yes, I’m a vampire, so duh...’ Devlin stuttered, set back by the question that seemed to come out of nowhere.
‘Ah, sorry.’ Caera laughed. ‘It just popped into my head. I asked without thinking.’
‘It’s okay.’ Devlin shrugged. Caera couldn’t see it, but she felt him do it.
‘So then you bite people.’ she stated.
‘Yes, but humans won’t know about it. The wound heals instantly and our fangs contain some sort of poison which makes them either forget it, or think it a nightmare.’ Devlin explains.
‘Does it hurt?’ Caera asked carefully. ‘To be bitten, I mean.’
‘Well, they usually scream, but I’m not sure if it’s because it hurt or because they are scared shitless.’ he grinned. ‘You want to find out?’
‘Sure.’ Caera said without thinking. She was curious about it. Would it hurt, and how would her blood taste to him. ‘But won’t I forget about it then?’
‘Normally not, you’re not human. I don’t know what you are, but you’re not human, else you wouldn’t be here.’ Devlin said.
‘Okay.’ Caera pulled her hair to the sight. Faolan growled. ‘Shut up, Faolan. I let you...’ Faolan growled louder so Caera couldn’t finish the sentence. Devlin sneaked one arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him so her back was resting against his chest.
‘Are you sure about it?’ he asked one last time.
‘Why not, it’s not like I’ll turn into a vampire.’ she shrugged, then stiffened. ‘Right?’ she asked, just to be sure. Devlin chuckled.
‘No, you won’t.’ he said and without further warning he sank his teeth in the soft skin of her neck.
It stung a little but as soon as he took a sip of her blood it started to feel kind of nice. Like being poked by two needles first and then a feeling she could only describe as butterflies in your stomach, but now at the place where he had bitten her. Devlin pulled his fangs back.
‘So, did it hurt?’ he asked a little dazed. Caera touched the place his fangs had been just seconds ago. It still tingled a bit.
‘No, not at all.’ she said. ‘How did my blood taste?’
Devlin laughed. ‘You really are curious about the weirdest things.’
‘Don’t avoid answering my question, or was it that bad?’ Caera said a little upset.
‘No, your blood taste so good it’s almost addicting.’ he grinned.
‘Don’t think you’re getting any more from me.’ she said almost immediately. ‘I let you this time because I was curious.’ Her face turned a little red.
‘Trust me, if I really want it, you can’t stop me.’ Devlin laughed earning himself a growl from Faolan.
‘No but he probably can.’ Caera grinned. Devlin shrugged, not wanting to argue.
It didn’t take very long for them to arrive at the big hall. Everyone was still dancing, chatting and having fun with their friends. The stage where the dj was playing his music was being cleared. A microfoon was put in the middle and the principal, accompanied by several teachers, ascended the stage.
