Faolan too stepped back a little, raising his hands in defense. ‘Before you get angry, let me explain.’ he pleaded.
Caera fought back a smile. She wasn’t angry, it had just surprised her. Maybe she should be angry as he had stolen her first kiss, but it wasn’t a such a big deal to her. Besides, if she was really honest with herself, she’d have to admit that she actually liked it a little. Okay, maybe a lot. It had felt sweet and gentle even though it was quick. She didn’t mind at all that that kiss was her first. She blushed a little, thinking like that. ‘Okay,’ she said in a soft voice. ‘let’s hear it.’ She looked at Faolan, waiting for his explanation. Faolan avoided her look and stared at the floor instead.
‘You said you wanted to talk to me when I’m in my wolf form, so I needed to give you permission to read my mind.’ Caera saw his face become slightly red. ‘The deeper the kiss, the more you can read.’ He mumbled the last sentence.
‘So how much can I read now?’ she asked.
‘Only what I want you to hear.’ Faolan answered, still not meeting her gaze.
‘Can you hear mine?’
Finally Faolan looked at her. ‘No,’ he said. ‘it only works one way.’ he paused.
‘Unless...’
Caera looked at him expectantly. It seemed quite useful to her if someone could hear her in situations she wasn’t allowed or able to speak. ‘Yes?’ she urged him to continue.
‘Unless you want me to but to do so...’ he stopped and looked at the floor again.
‘We need a deeper kiss?’ Caera guessed.
Faolan nodded. The faint pink color of his cheeks turning a little bit more red.
‘Okay.’ she said.
Faolan looked up, one eyebrow raised. ‘What do you mean “okay”?’ he asked.
‘I can hear your mind, if you want me to, where ever I am, right?’ she asked, ignoring his question. ‘We don’t have to be close, right?’
Faolan nodded. ‘Even if you were on the other side of the world, or if I am on this world and you are on the Human World. If I want you to hear me, you’ll hear me.’
‘And it works the same if you can hear my mind, right?’ Caera continued.
Faolan nodded.
‘Well then, give me a deeper kiss. It might come in handy to have someone who can hear me no matter what.’ she said.
Faolan’s mouth fell open with surprise.
‘Does it only work when you’re in your wolf form?’ Caera asked, fighting the urge to throw something in his wide open mouth.
No. She heard Faolan’s voice in her head. Slowly she saw him close his mouth and regain his posture. ‘No, it works always.’ he said. Caera nodded and Faolan walked closer to her. ‘Are you sure about this?’ he asked her when he stood so close to her the tips of their shoes almost touched.
Caera looked up at him. ‘Very sure.’ she stated.
‘You’ll be able to hear more of my mind then what I want to send to you.’
‘I don’t mind.’
Faolan had completely gotten over his surprise and the shyness in him seemed to have disappeared as well. Roughly he grabbed her waist with his left hand and pulled her against him. A little gasp of surprise left her lips and in only seconds Faolan had lifted her chin with his other hand and crushed his lips onto hers. His rough movements forced Caera to open her lips slightly and Faolan took that chance to slit his tongue in. Having a little trouble breathing Caera stepped backwards, but Faolan didn’t let go of her and moved with her until her back hit the wall. After what seemed a very long time, Faolan finally let go and Caera immediately sucked in a large breath of air.
‘Sorry,’ Faolan said, backing away a little. ‘I... uhm... just couldn’t help myself.’ His face turned a little pinkish red again as he avoided her eyes.
Caera looked at him suspiciously. I want more! she suddenly heard in her head. Faolan realised it as his face turned a bright red. Caera couldn’t help but giggle at his embarrassment. ‘We should go.’ she changed the subject. Kyiana is probably worrying her head off. Faolan nodded in agreement when he heard her thought.
‘Yeah, she was seriously worried already when she had to leave you while you were spacing out like that.’ he said and he changed in his wolf form. Caera had seen it once before, but she was so lost in rage then that she hadn’t really been able to admire the beautiful black fur and the playful white ear, twitching to and from her.
That was SO cool! she thought. Faolan’s laugh sounded in her head. It still felt a bit weird to have a different voice than her own in her head.
Get on. Faolan said gesturing her with his head to climb on his back. Caera walked until she stood right beside him but hesitated. What if I hurt him? I don’t want to pull his hair again, I’ve done that enough. she didn’t mean the thoughts to reach Faolan and was startled when he suddenly replied. Don’t worry. You won’t hurt me. She nodded and Faolan bent through his legs a little to make it easier for her to hop on. Caera grabbed to hands full of fur and pulled herself up. AU! Faolan shouted in her head. She let go at once, falling back to the floor.
‘I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you. Did it...’ she started apologizing but stopped when Faolan’s laughter sounded in her head. She kicked him in his side, knowing it wouldn’t hurt him, screamed ‘You jerk!’ and moved away from him, crossing her arms over her chest. ‘I was really worried.’ she pouted. Faolan turned around and pushed gently against her shoulder with his nose, while letting out a soft howl. I’m sorry. he said, pushing his head under her arm and looking at her like a little puppy that just got scolded. Caera couldn’t hold it in anymore and with a big grin she threw her arms around his head, burying her face in the warm fur. You’re so soft. She couldn’t hear or see it, but she felt Faolan smiling. He pushed her on his back with his front paw and his nose. Hold on tight. he told her, before running through the hallway. Caera leaned against his back, gripping two fists of fur so she wouldn’t fall off. Faolan ran through hallway after hallway. After 5 minutes of running at full speed, Caera started to suspect that Faolan either didn’t know where he was going, or taking a huge detour on purpose. She didn’t mind though as she was enjoying the wind in her hair, the warm fur beneath her and the tingly feeling she got in her belly from the speed.
About half an hour later they arrived at a doorway with two big, dark, wooden doors. Faolan changed into his human form, with Caera still clinging to his back. ‘Hey,’ she said, suddenly wondering about something. ‘where do your clothes go when you change?’ Faolan shrugged.
‘No one knows. Some say it turns into fur.’
Caera nodded, satisfied with the answer. It wasn’t really that important. Just a little bit of her randomness.
