Has it really been 9 months since I've updated this story? :o
I'm so so so so sorry to all my readers for making you wait this long. Hopefully you'll still want to read on.I present to you, after long await, the next chapter of Monster School!
Genna came out only a few seconds later with a towel around her hair and a different set of clothes on. She walked passed Tyler and went through the next door, which appeared to be yet another bedroom, and took out a small bag. When she saw Tyler looking at it with one eyebrow lifted she felt the need to explain herself. ‘I’ve been wearing the same clothes for days and haven’t been able to wash myself either. I felt dirty. And this,’ she held up the backpack. ‘I filled it with things that are of great value to me and my family.’ Tyler shrugged. ‘Let’s just go over our plan to escape before Ariënné comes back.’
Only a little less than an hour later Ariënné came back into her room. Quietly, on tiptoes, she walked to the dollhouse in the middle of her room. Even though she tried to be as quiet as possible, it still sounded really loud for little people. She looked through the big window in the front, the one at the back and those on the sides, but didn’t find her pets anywhere. Then she noticed two curtains had been closed. She lifted the roof slightly and saw that the female pet was lying in a bed in one of the rooms upstairs. The male was lying in bed in a different room. She giggled softly, closed the roof and checked if the front doors were locked. Then she ran to the corner of her room, where her princess bed was and quickly crawled in it.
A few minutes after, the giant came to her room to check on her. He found her sound asleep, so he tucked her in and went back.
After a few hours Tyler got out of his bed. He had heard the giant parents in the hall a little over half an hour ago and now all was quiet. ‘They must have gone to sleep,’ he concluded. With a soft knock on the door of the room where Genna was pretending to sleep, the door flung open. Genna caught it before it could crash to the wall behind it. ‘Sorry, this door squeaks when you try to open it softly.’ she whispered apologetically. The two sneaked down the stairs and with the key they opened the front doors. Tyler held on to Genna by her shoulders as she spread her skin so to form two wings to her side. Genna jumped out of the hall, making Tyler gasp, before the air under her wings made them soar in a downward circle. A soft thud and a little shock let Tyler know they had landed. As fast as they could, they ran towards the window Tyler had seen through the window of the dining room in the dollhouse.
Now it was Genna’s turn to hold on to Tyler by putting her arms around his shoulders and crossing her legs around his waist. Tyler used his chameleon powers to stick to the wall as he climbed up to the window.Their next challenge would be to open the window. Together they pulled the lever and luckily it didn’t give as much resistance as Tyler had suspected. They give the window a little push to make an opening big enough for them to fit through. The tree Tyler had spotted before was standing so close that right below the window, about one meter down, a thick branch almost touched the wall. As quietly as possible they jumped out of the window and started to make a run towards the tree trunk. Genna climbed back on Tyler’s back and with a speed he didn’t even recognize, he began his climb towards the ground. As soon as their feet touched the ground Genna took the lead and spurted away from the house, Tyler hot on her heels. They ran for hours it seemed, when finally the lights of several campfires came into view. The closer they got to them the more Tyler could see. There were tents scattered around a large area, placed in circles of five or six with in the middle a campfire. Genna ran straight up to the biggest tent and entered it without second thought. Tyler hesitated outside. This didn’t seem like the prosperous village Genna had described to him at all.
Tyler didn’t have to wait for long before Genna and a plumb man with gray hair, a gray mustache and an equally gray beard came back out the tent, laughing and crying together at the same time.
‘Dad, this is the person who saved me.’ Genna introduced her father to Tyler, who gave the man a firm handshake.
‘Thank you, son.’ the man said, tears still streaming down his cheeks while his gentle, wise looking face was decorated by a smile from ear to ear. ‘For returning my daughter safely were she belongs. The queen had predicted this to happen. We are fortunate to have believed in her and to have trusted her judgement.’
‘Queen?’ Genna asked surprised. ‘But dad, you’re the mayor, there’s no one above you. Since when do we have a queen?’
‘Not long after you were taken, we went to our first case emergency spot. Here. Where we found our queen. She said she could predict the future and assured us that you would come back safely. In return for her prediction she demanded to be crowned queen and treated as such.’ the man explained. Tyler sighed.
‘Why do I get a bad feeling about this?’ he mumbled so no one could hear him.
They halted in front of a luxurious looking tent. It wasn’t as big as the one the mayor had been in, but it certainly didn’t do under for it. After the three of them entered the tent, Tyler’s suspicions became validated. In a golden framed lounge chair, with her feet on a matching footstool, eating grapes like she was Cleopatra herself, sat Kseniya. The moment their eyes met the scenery around them changed and before they knew it, they were back standing in front of their mirror, looking at their own reflection.
‘Congratulations,’ mister Yuri complimented them both. ‘you two are the first to come back.’ He was sitting on a blanket a little to the right of the row of mirrors, sipping tea and eating tiny sandwiches. He lifted his cup to them. ‘Tea, anyone?’
