Caera woke up in an enormous bed, all alone. She looked around but Faolan and Devlin were no where to be found. Still a little sleepy she walked out of the bedroom into the living room. What she saw there woke her up immediately and gave her such a good mood. She had trouble not bursting out into laughter at the sight in front of her. Devlin was laying curled up on the end of the sofa, Faolan was laying stretched out on almost every other part of it with one leg over the back of the sofa. As quietly as she could, Caera walked over to Faolan, took a strand of her hair and starting softly tickling his nose with it. Faolan’s nose wrinkled, but more reaction than that wasn’t there. She walked over to Devlin and did the same. With a sudden movement Devlin rubbed his nose then layed back in his fetus position. Caera jumped back startled, but when Devlin continued to sleep, she tried it with Faolan again. He sneezed loudly and the both of them jumped up from the sofa looking around frantically. ‘What, who?’ Devlin asked. Faolan’s eyes fell on Caera standing a little away from the sofa as she had jumped back from the sudden reaction. She was still holding the strand of hair in her hand. Faolan’s eyes turned brighter and brighter. ‘Don’t be angry Faolan, I didn’t wanted to scare you, I just wanted to wake you.’ Caera explained. For some reason she didn’t feel afraid of him this time. She couldn’t explain it. Faolan seemed to find his calm back as his eyes turned back to it’s soothing amber color. ‘Look, you should never wake a sleeping wolf.’ he said eventually. ‘Even when we’re sleeping, our senses are sharp and I could’ve attacked you. You’re lucky I didn’t.’
‘Faolan is right, Caera. The same can be said for vampires.’ Devlin agreed.
‘Okay, I have two things to say to you both.’ she stated. ‘And one thing to ask.’ Caera added after thinking about it a little. ‘One, you two are quite a like for two species that hate each other.’ Devlin and Faolan took a look at one another and were about to argue that statement, but Caera didn’t let them. ‘Two,’ she continued. ‘If your senses are so sharp than I must be a ninja or something for being able to come so close to you.’ Faolan wanted to explain, but again Caera continued before he could say anything. ‘And my question is: why were you two sleeping on the sofa in the first place? Wasn’t the bed more comfortable?’ Faolan let himself fall back on the sofa. ‘First, I’m in nothing similar to that bat. Second, you are absolutely right and I might be able to explain it, but I’ll have to think about it a little. And third, yes, the bed was more comfortable and I would have loved to be able to sleep there till morning, but a certain someone kicked both of us out.’ he sighed. Caera’s eyes grew bigger. ‘Did I kick you out? How did I do that?’ she asked surprised.
‘In the middle of the night you suddenly started turning and moving around in the bed. You woke us up with it and in the end you were laying there in such a way there was practically no room for us to lay comfortably, so we decided to just leave you there and try to sleep here.’ Devlin explained, trying to suppress a yawn. Caera didn’t have much trouble believing what she was just told. She often woke up next to her bed or even on the other side of her room in the orphanage. ‘Hehe, I sawwy.’ she said. ‘Alright!’ Devlin exclaimed, stretching himself and then walking to the kitchen. ‘Time for breakfast.’ Faolan stood up from the sofa and walked over to Caera. He gave her a quick but firm hug and walked over to the kitchen. ‘What was that about?’ Caera asked. ‘Just felt like it.’ Faolan answered mentally. Caera could feel a little bit of guild emerging from Faolan, but she also felt him trying to push her out of his mind. She decided to just leave it at that.
After breakfast, Caera locked herself into the bathroom to take a nice relaxing shower. She had gotten her clothes from the closet, where Devlin had taken her pyjamas from the night before, and had placed them in the bathroom before showering. She got dressed, brushed her teeth, her hair, then put it in a bun, clipping her bangs back so she could see with both eyes perfectly. She thought she might need it during the assignments today at the bonding event.
Faolan and Devlin were already standing in the living room, ready to go, when a soft knock on the door sounded through the appartement. Faolan went to open the door and came back only seconds later. ‘It was the monitor.’ he explained. ‘Everybody is gathering in the big hall.’
‘Okay, let’s go then!’ Devlin cheered, pushing Faolan and Caera through the front door. The trio walked back through the hallway, chatting about the bonding event.
‘So, seeings I kinda ‘spaced out’ during the explanation last night, what was this event about again?’ Caera asked.
‘It’s actually quite simple.’ Faolan started to explain. ‘We get divided into groups then dropped somewhere on the school grounds with a list of assignments. The first group to get back to the hall with all assignments completed, wins.’
‘That doesn’t sound like much of a challenge.’ Caera shrugged. ‘I mean, how big can the school grounds be?’
‘Well...’ Devlin said. ‘Have you ever been to or heard of Bangkok?’
‘Sure,’ Caera answered. ‘It’s one of the biggest cities of the Human World with it’s 1568,737 square kilometers. Traveling from one side to another, by car, can easily take over 2 hours.’ Devlin and Faolan looked at her with an astonished look on their faces.
‘What?’ Caera asked. ‘I’ve done an essay on Thailand, of course I’ve added it’s capital in it.’ ‘Anyway,’ Devlin continued. ‘The school grounds are triple that size.’
‘No way!’ Caera exclaimed. ‘How can they expect us to do assignments AND be back here in less than one day?’
‘It won’t be that difficult to make it back on time.’ Faolan mumbled. ‘It’s the assignments that I’m afraid of.’
‘How so?’
‘My brother told me that they got some really difficult ones a few years back. Many groups couldn’t even complete them all in time.’
‘I see. But what did you mean by ‘getting back on time won’t be difficult’?’
‘I can carry up to three people on my back, depending on their weight. Devlin can carry one and you’ve seen his speed matches mine. So that’s already six out of ten. If there’s another fast monster in our group that can carry three, we’re there.’ Faolan explained.
