Caera woke up in the middle of a classroom, curled up on a desk. She looked around and rubbed her eyes, for she couldn’t believe what she saw. Teenagers around her age all dressed up like monsters. There was a guy dressed up like a mummy and another one had vampire teeth in his mouth. A girl was dressed like a zombie and another one like a mermaid, but she had scaled legs instead of a tail. They were standing in a circle around her, all trying to stand as far away as possible. Suddenly the door slammed open and a big, hairy man entered the classroom. Without a word he walked up to Caera, lifted her over his shoulder and walked out of the room. Caera was still trying to figure out where she was and how she got there so she just let it happen. In the hallway she saw more people dressed up like monsters look at her like she was a ghost. Wait, she even saw a few dressed up like ghosts. You could even see through them… That’s not possible… Oh, it were probable projected images. Yes, that’s it. There must be projectors hanging in the hallway somewhere. She tried to look up but the hairy man entered another room and placed her down on a chair. Across from her was a big desk and behind it a lady with grey, curly hair was seated. She looked strict but very friendly. Her eyes were closed, but she seemed to be doing paperwork. When she thanked the man without opening them, however, Caera just assumed she was blind. ‘Dear child, what are you doing at our school?’ she said to her. ‘I have no clue…’ Caera answered. ‘ma’am.’ she quickly added. The lady lifted her head and asked ‘Do you think you could tell me what happened?’ .  Caera nodded, but then realized that the lady couldn’t see her so she started talking. ‘I was at home counting down to midnight with my friend to celebrate my birthday and then I blacked out. When I woke up, I was laying on that desk in a classroom.’ The lady nodded. ‘I see.’ She walked to a archive and picked out a dossier. ‘In that case, you must be one of us.’ Caera looked at her, confused.

A knock on the door stopped her from asking what the lady meant. ‘Come in.’ The door flew open and Kyiana stormed in. ‘I can’t believe you’re here.’ she said to Caera. ‘Now I’m sure I must be dreaming. This is so weird.’ Caera said. ‘Oh dear, this isn’t a dream. Everything is very much real.’ the lady said. ‘Principal Madeira, Caera is my friend. I was counting down with her for her birthday when she just fainted and I felt she had come here so I came as soon as I could but then I couldn’t find her and I heard people talk about a human appearing in a classroom and so I asked where she was now and they told me she’d been brought to you so I came to your office as fast as I could and…’ ‘Kyiana.’ Caera interrupted her friend. ‘Yes?’ ‘Don’t forget to breath…’ Kyiana rolled her eyes. ‘Indeed child, calm down.’ principal Madeira interrupted. ‘As you know our sudden guest, you may lead her around school and explain why she came here, while the teachers and I will try to find out how she got sent here without an application.’ Kyiana pulled Caera’s arm and dragged her to the door. ‘Oh and dear,’ the principal said before Kyiana could open the door. ‘be sure to keep an eye on her. You know how some of the students are.’ Kyiana nodded and pushed Caera out of the principal’s office.

‘So maybe, before I give you the grand tour, I should explain to you what happened, where you are and why you are here…’ Kyiana started. ‘It’s lunch break now so I think we can use a classroom.’ She opened the first door they came across and pushed Caera in. ‘Let’s talk.’ she said while pulling two chairs from a desk next to her. She then noticed they weren’t alone in the classroom. At the desk opposite of the teachers desk a guy was sitting reading a book. She seemed to recognize him when she walked up to him. ‘Tyler?’ the guy looked up from his book. ‘Do you mind if I talk to my friend here?’ she asked. The guy shook his head. ‘Go ahead.’ he answered and he put his nose back in his book.  Kyiana walked back to Caera and took place in front of her. She took a deep breath and then started explaining.

‘Well you don’t need to worry about college anymore because you’ve just entered Monster School.’ she announced with a big smile. Caera took a moment to take it in. ‘Whut?’ she said. ‘This is a school for monsters. It starts at 9pm and ends at 5am. You’ll learn to control the powers you possess and you’ll learn about this world.’ ‘Wait,’ Caera interrupted her friend. ‘This world? So we’re in some sort of parallel universe? And Monster School? A school for monsters? That means you and I… we are…?’ Kyiana nodded. ‘Don’t worry. I freaked out the first time I came here too. My parents explained it all to me. I’m a siren. I don’t know what you are, but I’m sure the principal and the teachers will find out.’ ‘Seriously, so if you’re a siren then one of your parents is a god? Cause I thought sirens were half gods…’ ‘Originally they were, but now a siren can pass on their singing ability to it’s child.’ Tyler mixed himself in the conversation. ‘Yea, my mom’s a siren too.’ Kyiana answered. ‘Okay, a siren, I can get why you don’t look like a monster. But what about you?’ Caera said looking at Tyler who also seemed to be a normal guy. ‘I’m a chameleon.’ he answered. Caera looked at Kyiana and back to Tyler. ‘I’ll show you.’ he said and he seemed to disappear. ‘Hey, where did he go?’ Caera said, standing up from her chair. She walked to where Tyler had been standing not even a minute ago.  She suddenly felt someone poke her side and with a load squeal she jumped forward. ‘What the…’ Another poke in her side, but this time instead of jumping forward she hit to her side punching into something. ‘Ouch!’ came Tyler’s voice out of nowhere. He then appeared again next to Caera clutching his arms around his stomach. Kyiana couldn’t stop laughing. ‘That’s what you get for teasing people like that.’ she said while wiping the tears from her eyes. Tyler looked at her with a pouting face. Caera tried to hold in her laughter but failed and received a mean look from Tyler. ‘He don’t blame me. I can’t help it. When someone pokes me, my reactions are never the same.’ Kyiana nodded. ‘That’s true. Well now you know what Tyler can do.’ ‘He can become invisible?’ Caera said. ‘Well, actually, I can make myself look like my surroundings. Like a chameleon…’ Tyler explained. Caera nodded that she understood.
