Faolan picked Caera up and walked with her in his arms, flanked by Devlin, through the crowd after the principal. They walked slowly and without a word to the principal’s office. When they arrived there, Faolan placed Caera gently in a chair and stood beside her, Devlin on her other side. Still a little dazed, Caera watched the principle pacing around in front of her desk. She was mumbling to herself words that Caera’s confused mind could not quite grasp yet. Finally the principle sat down on her chair behind her desk with a loud sigh.

‘Caera, I need you to tell me everything you know about yourself. From the first thing you remember to anything that you might have been unable to explain before. Anything not human.’

‘I’m sorry, principle Madeira, but before that, could you please tell me what just happened?’ Caera pleaded.

‘Very well. I’m not sure how much you’ve learned of this world by now. I assume it isn’t much. The world of monsters is divided in several kingdoms based on race. This school is located in one of the few neutral grounds where races can live together.

There is the Werewolf Region, where werewolves and other shapeshifters live, and the Vampire Empire. No need to tell you that vampires and werewolves, normally, don’t really get along. Then there is Monster Kingdom, where all hybrid monsters live. Monsters that were created by humans and those born from interracial partners, some also half human, as your friends are, Kyiana and Tyler. A lot of hybrid monsters are able to live amongst the humans, as you know. Many monsters go there to do research on humans or just to satisfy their curiosity.

Those three kingdoms are the biggest of all in our world. But there is one more that isn’t as big as the others but surely as powerful and has a great deal of influence in our world: Nithalah. The kingdom of magic. You’ll find witches and wizards there, but also fairies and other magical beings.

Just now, you were possessed by a powerful witch. She had been banished to the Lost Grounds a long time ago. The Lost Grounds are an area constantly plagued by a thick mist. All those who have committed crimes so bad even death is a punishment too kind, are banished to those grounds. The borders of that area are constantly guarded and they will be killed on sight if they set foot out of there.

Powaqa, is her name. The witch who possessed you. She was banished there for crimes against the entire Monster World. With her possessing skills and manipulating ways she tried to start wars all over our world. With as ultimate goal, as you might guess, to become the empress of Monster World. Her sister, Safiyah, was the queen of Nithalah. She was the only one to be immune to the manipulations of her sister, but her husband was not. Luckily, she found out about her sister’s intentions before they could be realised. The Great Magical Clash is one of the greatest battles fought in our history. Of course, Safiyah prevailed and Powaqa was banished to the Lost Grounds.’

Principle Madeira stopped her history lesson and seemed to wait for something.

‘I see, but I’m sorry, principle, I don’t know anything about where I might come from or who I might be. I’ve never seen or heard anything magical or non human like until I got here.So I don’t know why she possessed me, maybe it’s because I’m easy to possess? I mean it wasn’t only that evil voice I’ve been hearing, there was a nice, gentle voice too. That voice has encouraged me before.’ Caera suddenly remembered something. ‘That gentle voice, I’ve heard it before, even before I found out about monsters.’ she said. ‘I remember now. I thought it was my own inner voice encouraging me all those time when I felt lonely or before a big test or consoling me when I got hurt, but it was the same voice that helped me get out of my own head when Powaqa possessed me.’

Without warning principle Madeira jumped up. ‘I need to send some messages. I want you to go to your room for today and rest. Tomorrow the Bonding Event will start.’ She turned to Faolan and Devlin. ‘As for you two, don’t leave her out of your sight. Just for one night, until I have made better arrangements, I’ll allow you three to sleep in one room.’ Devlin and Faolan smirked at each other, but when they saw Caera look at them they couldn’t get there face straight fast enough.
