'Faolan?' Caera tried after a little while.
'I'm here.' he answered her with his soothing voice.
'How are you doing? Any progress?'
'Not really, it's mirrors everywhere. I honestly have no clue how to find Kyiana.'
'You're a wolf, have you tried sniffing her out?'
'Jeez, didn't think about that. I guess being a wolf must have slipped my mind.'
'Well I just reminded you, try it.' Caera ignored his obvious sarcasm. She heard him sigh mentally.
'Nothing.' his answer sounded a few seconds later. 'It would have been a lot easier for me if I had something with her smell on it. I have nothing to compare scents with now.'
'Have you tried simply calling for her?' Hope suggested.
'Yes, but that only results in echoes coming from all around, confusing me even more and hurting my ears.'
It got quiet for a little while.
'Look, I'll figure something out and if anything happens, you'll be the first to know. I promise.'
The calmth in his voice made Caera feel at ease.
Faolan felt his way through the path of mirrors. His nose was slightly red from bumping into the glass that every so often was placed between mirrors. So in order to prevent more physical damage, and any more dents to his pride, he decided to just take it slow and find his way out of the maze. He had been walking for what seemed like hours, taking a right and a left every now and then.
Faolan was standing at another fork in his path, trying to decide whether to take a left or a right again, when all of a sudden his body seemed to move on its own. Het got pulled to the right, walked straight through, took a left and another right. He kept on walking for more than fifteen minutes without knowing what he was doing. He didn't even need to touch the walls anymore. It was like some kind of instinct took over, or his body had gotten possessed by something. Either way, Faolan decided not to fight it, to see where his body was taking him. He hoped it would lead him out of the maze or straight to Kyiana, so he could give Caera some peace of mind. The restlessness she was feeling seeped through their connection clearly. Though he felt at ease having that little thread to hold on, to not be completely shut off from his own world, he did feel uncomfortable with the idea to being unable to return there. When he thought about everything he would be missing, the image of Caera was what came to him first.
Faolan was picturing what Caera and the others who had returned would be doing, chatting with each other, laughing together, when all of a sudden the image in his head got twisted. When it got clear again he could see Kyiana. He could see her so vividly in his head, he had to blink a few times to focus back on his surroundings. Just to make sure she wasn't really standing in front of him. She wasn't. Still, whenever he lost focus, it was like Kyiana had taken over his mind. She was all he could think about, all he could see.
'Is she doing this to me?' he wondered out loud.
'Caera?'
'You called?' Caera answered him immediately.
'I've never really cared, but what kind of powers does Kyiana have?' Faolan asked, still following the road his body was making him take.
'You're asking me, the specialist in Monsters? I didn't even know anything about this place or the existence of Monsters before a few days ago...'
'Are you telling me you don't know what your own friend is?'
'I'm telling you I don't know even half of what she is capable of.'
A short silence followed.
'But she told me she's a Siren.'
Understanding washed over Faolan's face. He strained his ears and, as he expected, somewhere far away in the distance, he could hear faint singing. Kyiana was calling to him. Her singing voice is what made his body move. It pulled him to her.
Faolan kept walking even though his legs were starting to burn from strain. He let the song guide him. Finally after hours of walking he saw Kyiana standing with her back towards him. Just as he was about to call out to her, her singing stopped and so did the pull on his body. He saw her legs give out and dashed forward to catch her right before she would hit the ground with her head. Faolan was not surprised, she had been using her powers for as long as he had walked. If he, a pure blood wolf, made for running, felt sore in his legs, then surely Kyiana must have been exhausted. He sat his back against a mirror and placed her head on his legs. Resting didn't seem like such a bad idea. He would figure out how to get back to the others after they both had regained their strength a bit. After about half an hour of sitting motionlessly, Faolan felt revived. His legs felt strong and reliable again. He moved a little to make sure of it. Kyiana opened her eyes and looked up at Faolan.
'You found me.' she said with a faint smile.
'Of course, with you as my guide I couldn't possibly fail.' Faolan answered, his voice sounded soothing. He looked back at her, straight in her eyes, and before they realised what was happening, they were standing in front of their mirrors again, staring at their own reflection.
'Welcome back, young ones, now there's only one pair left to wait for.' mister Yuri spoke, sitting comfortably on his blanket with yet another cup of tea in his hand.'I wouldn't mind if they didn't make it back, especially my idiotic brother.' Wiley mumbled, but no one seemed to hear him. It was either that or they all agreed to ignore him, which was also very likely. Kyiana sat down next to Caera.
'Are you okay?' Caera asked her friend. 'You look exhausted.'
'I would be surprised if she wasn't.' Faolan noted as he sat down across from them. 'She has been singing for hours to help me find her.' Kyiana nodded and let her head fall on Caera's shoulder. Caera softly stroked her hair.
'It's okay, you did great. Have some rest.' she soothed. Kyiana closed her eyes and drifted off to a nice, relaxing sleep.
