At first, the decision felt like a cruel joke, after years of serving TAPOPS side by side, fighting as one unstoppable storm of seven, the Commander announced it was time.
They had grown, proven themselves, and the galaxy demanded more than just a single squad of heroes.
So, one by one, each of the septuplets was given a new title, Unit Leader.
Scattered across different systems, stationed on different worlds, they were no longer seven fighting as one, they were seven fighting alone.
They protested, of course.
Denied the orders with clenched fists and angry voices, but in the end, orders were orders, and TAPOPS had no room for sentiment.
The galaxy was too big, too dangerous, to keep its strongest together in one place.
Still, the brothers swore a promise.
We will stay in touch, every day, no matter what.
They created a group chat, filling it with their ridiculous name ideas until one stuck.
Video calls every night became routine, they laughed, teased, shared missions and meals through their screens.
The chat was chaos, half nonsense, half comfort, Blaze sending ugly doodles of them as stick figures, Solar commenting on their inaccuracies.
Thorn attaching blurry pictures of things he didn't understand, Ice responding with dry sarcasm. Taufan made it worse by writing long paragraphs about his day, which no one really read but everyone reacted to.
Halilintar's short commands still bled through and Gempa filled the gaps with encouragement, balancing the noise with calm.
It wasn't the same as being together, but it was enough.
Blaze: you won't believe what I almost blew up today 😂
Solar: don't be an idiot, report it properly.
Taufan: look at this sunrise!! 😎 (photo with ninety filters)
Thorn: found a weird rock OwO, it looks like a gemstone!
Ice: so noisy
Halilintar: eat. hydrate. sleep. do not die.
For a while, it almost felt like nothing had changed.
But slowly... things did.
The updates turned shorter, missions grew longer, sometimes someone would miss the call, sometimes another would forget to reply.
Messages arrived late, replies were dry, sometimes just an emoji, sometimes nothing at all.
"It's fine" Gempa thought.
Soldiers couldn't always reply instantly, missions dragged on. They were busy, Gempa told himself that silence was proof they were working hard, that their efforts mattered.
But silence repeated.
Blaze's jokes hung unanswered for hours, Solar's questions about strategy faded with no replies. Thorn's pictures stacked in neat rows, ignored.
Even Taufan's endless chatter began to shrink, Ice stopped leaving his sharp little comments, and Halilintar's reminders grew scarce.
Gempa filled the silence.
He wrote updates, tried to keep the chat alive.
Gempa: My squad beat their training record today!
