The fluorescent lights of the deserted hallway hummed, casting long shadows as I walked. The usual morning chaos of students was absent, replaced by an eerie quiet. My backpack felt lighter than usual, but my chest felt heavy, buzzing with a mixture of anticipation and lingering warmth from the previous night. I had barely slept, replaying every whispered word, every shared glance, every touch.
As I neared her classroom, I saw the door was ajar. A low chuckle, undeniably masculine, drifted out. My jaw tightened. I recognized that laugh. Coach Miller. He was known for his... 'enthusiasm' with new female staff members.
My internal alarm bells, which had been blissfully silent for the past few hours, began to clang. I slowed my pace, leaning slightly against the doorframe, trying to appear nonchalant.Inside, Beyonce stood by her desk, a stack of papers in her hand, dressed in a sharp, tailored skirt suit that somehow managed to be both professional and incredibly alluring. Her hair was pulled back in a sleek ponytail, and there was a fresh, dewy glow to her skin. And standing opposite her, leaning against the teacher's desk with an easy smile, was Coach Miller, his broad shoulders filling the space. His usual gym shorts and whistle were replaced by khaki pants and a polo shirt, clearly making an effort.
"...and I just figured, since you're new, you might appreciate a local's guide to the best coffee shops," Coach Miller was saying, his voice entirely too smooth. He gestured expansively with one hand, and then, brazenly, reached out to touch her arm.
Beyonce, with practiced grace, subtly shifted, making his hand brush against her sleeve rather than her skin. She offered a polite, distant smile. "That's very kind of you, Coach. I'll keep it in mind."
It was the perfect professional deflection, but it wasn't enough to quell the sudden, unfamiliar surge of possessiveness in my gut. My hands clenched at my sides. Last night, she was vulnerable, warm, yielding. Now, she was Ms. Knowles, the composed, intelligent teacher, dealing with a shark like Miller.
I pushed off the doorframe, making a subtle noise that drew their attention. Both their heads snapped towards me.
Coach Miller's smile faltered, replaced by a flicker of annoyance, then a calculated smirk as he took in my early presence. "Well, well, if it isn't Y/n. Bright and early this morning, aren't we?" He threw an arm over his head, stretching casually, subtly flexing his bicep.
Beyonce's eyes, however, widened just a fraction, a spark of surprise flashing before a carefully neutral expression settled over her features. Her gaze swept over me, quick and searching, as if confirming it was really me and not a dream. A faint, almost imperceptible blush touched her cheeks.
"Good morning, Ms. Knowles," I said, my voice deliberately calm, ignoring Miller. My eyes locked onto hers, a silent message passing between us, a reminder of the night just hours before. "Just wanted to drop off that book I borrowed from the library. Thought I'd catch you before classes started." It was a flimsy excuse, the book was irrelevant, and we both knew it.
"Y/n," she replied, her voice a little softer than it had been for Miller, a hint of something deeper in the way she said my name. Her eyes flickered to the PE teacher, then back to mine, a silent warning blended with curiosity.
"Book, huh?" Miller interrupted, breaking the tenuous connection. He pushed off the desk, moving to stand between us, effectively blocking my clear view of her. "Seems a bit early for an student like yourself, doesn't it?" His smile was condescending now.
I met his gaze, my own unwavering. "Never too early for knowledge, Coach. Especially not when it comes to a class as... engaging as Ms. Knowles's." The double meaning hung heavy in the air.Beyonce cleared her throat, a small, nervous sound. "Thank you, Y/n. You can just leave it on my desk." Her eyes were still on me, a silent conversation unfolding beneath the surface.
