Daughter of Hades
Chapter 16 -Fatal Flaw-
[Sarah's POV]
-
Nothing happened. Mr. Rook acted completely normal and gave us no reason to distrust him...which of course made me distrust him more. Every single one of the demigods who knew they were demigods had been on edge during the entire class. When it ended without a fight Percy stood in the hallway next to Jason obviously wanting us to gather.

They led the rest of us to the gym and Percy slammed his fist on Coach Hedges door. Reyna and Jason stood a bit behind the group, probably to discuss some kind if truce in the face of danger. The only people not here were Leo, Piper, Hazel and Frank. I wonder what they thought we were all doing here.

"What is it?" The irritated voice of Coach Hedge barked through the door.

"Monster." Percy said simply and the door flung open. Hedge stared at all of us and exited his office.

"Status report?"

We all sat on the bleachers as Percy described the situation. "Well he's our English sub, Grover said he smelled monster so we all sat and waited for a fight to break out...I mean we have five, suspected six, children of the big three so of course monsters should be flocking the place but he didn't do anything. He just taught the class-"

"Badly." Nico scoffed.

"-yeah, he didn't seem to know what he was doing. But he just let us all go without any trouble. His gaze never lingered on any of us and we've never seen him before." Percy finished.

"Actually-" I interrupted the Coach before he could say anything. "I saw him at the dance. I assumed he was a chaperone. He was watching all of us, the children of the big three."

"Why hasn't he attacked yet?" Jason asked, more to himself than anyone else. "Monsters usually don't wait this long. They don't watch their prey and...I mean it seems like he's studying us so he can form a strategy. Monsters don't do that."

"We aren't prey." I mumbled.

"If they have an intelligent leader they might. Or if they're intelligent them self." Annabeth said. "Not all monsters are dumb. Most of them are actually fairly smart."

Percy nodded. "That's true, but they still usually don't wait this long. Monsters love to attack children of the big three. With so many of us in one room, why would he hesitate? What could he gain by letting us have more time to live and think?"

"What kind of strategy could he be forming..." Thalia looked at all of us. "He isn't watching us fight to learn how we fight. He spying on us and learning how we think. He's just...observing. And teaching bad English."

Annabeth stood up. "We need to figure out what he's planning before he can act." She decided. "I want all of you thinking about how this could benefit him. Tomorrow we'll all skip English and discuss theories. Think about how someone could defeat you, personally." She started to walk away then turned back. "And Nico? You should start training Sarah. Make sure she knows what she can do."

Nico nodded and we all stood up to go our separate ways. We'd wasted the few minutes we had in between classes and were a bit late to history. Mr. Peterson raised an eyebrow at the fact that all of us were late together as a group but didn't say anything.

I sat down in my usual seat next to Nico. Thalia was up by Jason and the others, probably trying to think. I was surprised when Reyna took the other seat next to me.

"Uh, hey." I said and she nodded me a greeting.

"I realize we haven't really spoke properly after discovering your identity." She said bluntly. I nodded and she continued. "Just because I'm Roman doesn't mean I don't have a say in what happens here. I spoke with Jason and we agreed to work together, Greek and Roman. My mother is a war goddess. I just want you to know that if you ever want advice from a real soldier, I'd be open to helping."
