Daughter of Hades
Chapter 4 -I Meet a Beauty Queen-
[ Sarah's P.O.V. ]

I sat down on my bunk and picked up my only important possession, my mothers necklace. It was a silver chain with a simple black skull hanging from it. I wasn't sure why my mother thought it was so special but she'd always worn it. Whenever she was upset or lonely she held it as if it connected her to someone-I assumed it was my father. Since he died I guessed the skull represented him but I couldn't be sure. She'd died before I could muster up the courage to ask her.

I looked around the girls dorm, it had twelve bunks but only four were occupied. Annabeth had claimed the bunk on the wall next to the door. Thalia had claimed the one on the other side. Reyna's was right in the middle of the left wall.

Annabeth slept on the top bunk and the bottom was covered in her junk; a pile of books along with a laptop, a few notebooks and pencils. Her school books were dumped under it. Annabeth loved learning and reading, if she wasn't reading for fun she was designing things on her laptop. From what I could gather, she wanted to be an architect. Sometimes when no one was here I'd looked at her designs, many of the structures and statues were Ancient Greek themed. One of her best was a statue of the goddess Athena. It seemed so modern and lifelike. On her nightstand was more books, a Yankees baseball cap (which no one was allowed to touch), and a small owl figurine. One the wall was a picture of Annabeth with Thalia and some blonde guy, one of her and Percy, and another photo of who I assumed was her family. A man, woman, and two boys.

Thalia slept on the bottom bunk of her two. She had the same photo Annabeth had along with one of Jason when he was younger and a drawing of a lightning bolt. On the top bunk she kept her book bag, her belts, and food she'd stolen from the vending machine in the cafeteria. On her nightstand was her jewelry, a silver bracelet she took extra good care of, and the keychain she always wore on her belt loop with her keys on it (one, I assumed, was the stolen key for the vending machine).

Reyna didn't have many possessions. She had one photo of someone who I assumed was her sister, they looked a lot alike. She slept on the top bunk like Annabeth and only had her book bag on the bottom bunk. On her nightstand was a few pencils, a notebook and some hair ties.

I slept on a bunk against the very back wall across from Thalia. I slept on the top and had a picture of my mom on the wall along with some drawings. I loved to draw, I always had, but most of my drawings had dark themes. I kept most of them in my sketchbook. I kept my book bag on the bottom bunk along with my favorite shirt. On my nightstand I kept my moms necklace (when I wasn't wearing it), my sketchbook, and a black dragon figurine. I liked dragons.

Reyna was in the shower at the moment and Annabeth was reading. Thalia was off somewhere breaking curfew. I put on my moms necklace and got up, moving towards the door.

Annabeth looked up. "Where are you going?"

I shrugged and left. I walked down the empty hall and stopped in from of the door to the boys dorm. I heard laughing and yelling and smiled a little. Some times if wished I could hang out with the boys, they seemed pretty cool and happy.

Then the door knob turned and Nico exited. He saw me and stared for a minute then closed the door behind him.

"Hey...Sarah...what are you doing?" He asked and glanced at my necklace.

"I just needed to think..." I said. I didn't even know why I'd left.

Nico nodded like he understood. "I like your necklace."

I looked down at it. "Thanks, it was my moms." I shrugged signaling I didn't want any pity. He nodded.

"Did your dad give it to her?" He asked. It was a strange question but I'd gotten used to his direct-ness.
