Rachel POV:

I stretched out and turned back to my book, it's official the library is the best room in the entire Gokai Kingdom. I looked down at the book of grim tales; I had managed to get halfway through it. I turned to the book on mercenare anatomy stacked on top of the book on enchanted stones. I picked up the book on anatomy letting the pages slide across my thumb as I turned to the page I had left on.

"I do not understand how you can read two books at once." Ira commented looking up at me from his spot sitting on the floor.

"Well sometimes I need to give my brain a break from the factually heavy textbooks so switching to the children's fairytales works great to refresh my brain." I explained as I looked over at the book it was a lot to process.

"You give your brain a break by reading more?" Ira questioned.

"Well yes, but it's kids' stories so it's fun not work." I pointed out and held up the book of grim tales, "What do you do to give your brain a break?"

"Normally at that point I start training outside and come back after a bit."  Ira said as he looked over at his own book, "Which I'm probably going to do soon."

"Go whenever you need, I don't think I'm going to get lost sitting here reading." I said as I sank further into my spot turning my attention to the page. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ira disappear. I looked once more at the page I really had so much to learn. I mean just look at all of these books. I could spend the rest of my like here and still wouldn't learn everything. I looked around slowly then out the window to the small buildings in the distance the mercenares going about their own lives looking like small dots moving around. Even if I were to manage reading every book in here, I would know nothing. Going out with Ira, Sirin, and Dustin that was how I really learned about mercenares. By existing with them at malls and restaurants, and even though I didn't spend much time there, at parties. The ball is going to be another amazing place to immerse myself into their culture and learn about them. First though this single book. I turned down to the page starting to read. Slowly I made my way through, holding the page between my fingers turning it slowly to get to the next page taking in all the information it had to offer me rubbing the paper between my fingers. Eventually my mind began to fill like the words themselves were crammed in between the grooves of my brain blocking the electrical signals and subsequently the information I was trying to retain.

I placed my finger between the pages closing the book and stretched out again I must have been reading for a while to feel so stiff, "Do you need a bookmark?" Ira asked. I looked over at him then to the book sandwiching around my finger.

"That would probably be a good idea." I replied, why hadn't I asked for one the other day when we were in the library?

"Here." Ira handed me a ribbon with a decorative purple gem on the end it looked a bit like a lotus flower but with pink buds coming from the center of the flower.

"Thanks." I said and slipped it into the book allowing the gem detail to rest on the seat as I set it down, "I thought the human body was complex, but you mercenares are way more complicated."

"No doubt about that our doctors are insanely smart." Ira agreed and looked at the thick book I was reading, "You must be to too already be halfway through that book."

I turned it to look down from the top, sure enough the bookmark was resting little over halfway through, "How long have I been reading?"

"Awhile I think I ditched three times to get my brain to stop feeling like it was made of clouds." Ira stood up from his spot on the floor sitting near my feet.

"Three times?" I repeated, the last time I was reading with Ira he hadn't left once.

"Yeah, but my mind is being chaotic right now so reading isn't going to work well." Ira shrugged off.
