Forty Four
The Slug Club
Bronwyn froze, her attention immediately drawn from her homework. The quill that was currently in her right hand bounced onto the desk as she dropped it. Her mouth slightly parted, her eyebrows drawn. Her head tilted to one side as she absorbed the question of which had been presented to her the second time. The first time she had missed the question, her mind so preoccupied that it had completely skipped her. Yet the second time the question hit, the time she listened and absorbed and was floored by his question.
The Slug Club.
Something that Bronwyn had never even heard of until it was brought up before her. A club apparently ran by the new potions professor, that had been prevalent since the beginning of the school year. But not even the name had circulated through her friendship group. Yet the air of mystery of which was supposed to surround it, draw her in, was missing. Rather she instantly disappointed by the sound of the club, of the social group being ran by the new professor. Clearly he was looking out for a specific group of people, looking to make more connections than necessary. If his invite list was anything to go by, he was almost collecting students of which he could brag about.
And she was not one of them.
Bronwyn had never been amazing at potions, she knew academics were not her strong suit. But Bronwyn had always believed that she had some form of decent connections, of being worth getting to know. Yet as Blaise's words sunk in, Bronwyn had to come to the realisation that due to the distancing between herself and Harry Potter, that all of a sudden she was not worthwhile getting to know or to be around. It was a hard pill to swallow, Bronwyn knew she was used to being pushed aside by her siblings, that was half the problem of coming from a large family where it was full of overachievers. But being pushed aside by your friends, or well ex-friends if she really looked into the relationship between her and Harry, that one always seemed to hurt more. Even though she had been used to being second fiddle to Harry for years now, by even her own mother it still hurt each time it happened.
For what did Harry have that she didn't which wasn't connected to the horrible night back when he was a baby? If Bronwyn was being honest, Harry didn't have much academical talent, sure he was better at Defensive spells than most magi folk their age but it was not like he didn't have to quickly pick up the skills to fend for himself. Yes he had money, money he spent sparingly to the point where you wouldn't be aware he even had money. It was all a lot, and well Bronwyn knew that she just had to try not to focus on it, try to push it aside to focus on anything else. For she knew jealousy was a horrible emotion, a terrible state. But she found that jealously was programmed into her had always been something that tickled through her veins when she didn't want it there. Taking over her entire body and dragging her into a pit she so hard fought to stay out of.
"I don't understand there's a super secret club run by a professor and they're hosting a dinner party?" Bronwyn clarified the information Blaise had provided her with, the boy sat beside her having moved himself in the chair so he was directly facing her. So she could see everything clearly without a table between them.
"Yeah Wyn, and I want you to be my date." Blaise confirmed as he watched Bronwyn closely wondering what her answer was going to be. He knew she liked dressing up, she liked going to events and things with him but he did wonder what she was going to think of the entire ordeal.
"Why was I not on the guest list at first? Am I not good enough?" Bronwyn's words were not sad, unlike what they sounded, no it seemed almost as if she was annoyed by the idea that she had not been invited. Blaise could not sense anger, not fully and he could tell that under the initial annoyance was the fact that she was disappointed.
