Screaming, gutteral loud bursts of terror rattling through the core of an individual and ricocheting off the walls around them. Screams of anguish, of terror never felt correct. Never felt as though they could be accepted or comfortable. Heart wrenching when the person was awake, heart breaking when they were asleep. Screaming as part of sleep was more than just the average nightmare. No, nightmares occurred when your brain was matching the activity of when you were awake during the REM stage of sleep. Night terrors happened much more before that, when your brain's activity had reduced to minimal yet the pain that remained still wrecked havoc.
Blaise had never been woken by someone screaming out in their sleep before, but as the noise pierced the silence of the room from the person beside him he bolted upright. His mind on full alert as he went into protection mode. There should have been no possible harm occurring within his home not without the old wards kicking in to protect the inhabitants. Yet as his eyes sprung open he checked first for danger, his hand reaching for his discarded wand before he could even fully recognise the room around him. But a physical danger would have been better than the clear room around him. The only other inhabitant being the person who no longer slept peacefully beside him.
Bronwyn was clearly not fully awake, yet her eyes were wide her hands shaky and the only clear look upon herself was that of terror. Yet in the dim light, the sliver being provided through the gap in the curtain, Blaise could not figure out what was going on, what was wrong.
"No!" She shouted, no longer a scream but the shouts of 'No' continued, over and over. And over again. Blaise unsure of how to respond knew one thing, he could not wake her in this moment. For he could only see it getting worse if he was to wake her. An instinct told him otherwise.
Therefore he reached instead for the light on his bedside table, the lamp casting out much of the darkness within the room. And so he could take a proper look at the terrified girl beside him. His eyes did a quick dart around the room, looking for anything that could have caused this response. And they landed on the fireplace in the room, the fireplace they had not used over the summer when they had last been in this very room. The fireplace, with the fire that's flames danced high against the brick backing.
The fire which most likely could only remind her sleep hazed mind of the evening prior.
"Bronwyn, darling." Blaise did not want to wake her purposely but considering she turned slightly towards his now awake body, he hoped that she could at least hear him in the state she was currently in.
