Forty Three

Bronwyn had not expected for her initial weeks of classes to go well. Her brain constantly tricking her to remind herself that she was not academically inclined and therefore should never expect herself to actually understand the coursework she was being taught. Nor was she supposed to be able to actually complete the magic they were teaching her. But as the first three weeks of classes passed she was surprised just how well she was staying on top of everything. Like she was floating above the water and not drowning below the surface. Potions had been one of the classes she dreaded most concerned for how she was going to react to a new teacher.

For recalling her relationship with Professor Snape, Bronwyn could never imagine she would ever get on with a teacher who taught the subject. She didnt like that she stereotyped them, but she assumed most potions teachers would favour the brightest stars of students and ignore the others around them. And the most favoured would be those in the house of snakes which the professors had both been students in. Therefore, when the favouring happened she was not surprised, a little disappointed but what else could she do. There was no way she actually wanted to shine in the class in any matter and therefore if she was allowed to coast through she would take it. Allow those around her who wanted the spotlight to take it. And if that person happened to be her friend turning, well she wasn't sure what Harry was to her anymore but she knew they were no longer friends in her eyes then she would take the lack of attention. As long as she managed to brew the potions correctly and had Hermione's help with the homework everything would be okay.

The library had already become her friend just weeks into the school year, and not because she had found a new love for studying. That was something she could never see herself doing. But no the library brought peace, but not quiet. In a way where she knew she would barely be disturbed and even if she just sat there reading a magazine and avoiding doing any of the work she had been set. But the library was also the place that she could easily meet Blaise in without having to constantly move locations. And that was who she was waiting on for once. It was a weird sensation being the first one there, considering Blaise was always impeccably early to everything they did together. But she tried to not focus on the reason as to why he was missing, why she had managed to beat him there even if she had completely detoured through the kitchens to grab herself a snack. The one she had to hurry to eat knowing they didn't allow food in the library, Ms Prince really needed to retire and a much chiller librarian move in.

"You're early."

"And you're late." Bronwyn put her magazine down to assess Blaise to try and figure out why he was late. Her eyes scanned him, looking for something that would give it away. His hair looked flawless as always, settling in the way which was so him. But it was when she got to his eyes that she could tell something was wrong. And she was quick to stand from her chair, leaving what she had been reading behind to approach. For there was a bruise forming around his left eye and tears of which had not fallen. Her hands reached out towards him not sure on where to be placed as she didn't want to hurt him, but she would hurt whoever touched what was hers. But the closer she got the quicker he was to pull her into himself. Her hands wrapping tightly around his midsection as his moved to grab tightly onto her.

"Who did this to you?" She asked, she saw no point in asking if he was okay, not in this moment when she knew that he would lie to make her feel better.

"It's sorted." Blaise responded but his grip on her got tighter and she knew that he was hiding something in order to not distress her. But she didnt care "Anyways you should see the other guy." He tried to joke but it fell flat both from his tone and her acceptance. Blaise attempted to not focus too much on what had happened, but he knew that Bronwyn had clearly gone into a stance he barely saw her in. But then again he did wonder where the Weasley Fire he had heard so much about had gone. And it looked as though he was about to experience the same.

"I will see them, when I put them in the grave." Her words were mumbled and muffled by his school jumper but he could still make them out clearly. And Blaise wanted above all to keep her protected, he didn't want her to have to decide or do anything when she found out who he had been in a fight with but it was clear that he wasn't going to be able to hide it forever. But rather he could focus on the feeling of her in his arms, and the main reason he had even come to see her in the library today.

"Let's get back to what we planned yeah?"

"I'm not leaving until you tell me who it was." Yet Bronwyn complied when he directed her back to the chair she had vacated upon his arrival. His hands gently guiding down before he pushed the chair in behind her. He took the seat beside her his action focused now on bringing out the textbooks he had brought along for the session. Yet before he could get too caught up in the bag he had brought he felt the heat of her hand on his jaw. His attention snapped back to her "I love you." Her words bounced around the otherwise quiet section they were sat in and even though it pulled against the bruising Blaise smiled back at her.

"I love you too, now charms." He placed his copy of the sixth year textbook down on the table, only to hear an audible groan from Bronwyn at the mere appearance of it.

"But I passed last year Blaise I don't need more tutoring."

"Wyn, you barely passed last year. You honestly think because we're engaged I'm gonna let you fail now?" He pondered and he watched as Bronwyn thought about his words properly, he knew she wouldn't protest if it was him. But it was funny to watch the thoughts reflect on her face as they passed. But regardless of what she thought she soon gave in and allowed him to open his textbook. But what she had not expected was to see his textbook have the blue pages like her own. She instantly stopped herself and moved closer to the book picking it up and flipping it to the front page. The one where she had written her own name only to find that her name was missing. And rather the name penciled into the front page to claim the book belonged to the boy sat beside her.

"Blaise."

"Yeah baby?" He didn't look up at his name. His focus elsewhere as she felt her heart race.

"Why are your textbooks also blue?"

"So we could share." He was already working on the homework that had been set for the charms class they had the day prior. She looked over at him but his focus remained on the pages.

"Are they all like this?"

"Of course they are. Mine are charmed though not printed on blue parchment." He shrugged as he finally took his attention away from the paper. They would both then settle onto the homework they had been set for the class, as Bronwyn tried to ignore just how much such a simple action had caused her to fall in love with the boy sat next to her. She hadn't thought she could fall even deeper but it looked as though she had been wrong. And it appeared that there could be no limit to her love for him. And she was excited to investigate just how much further it could go.

Blaise never did tell her who he had got into a fight with that afternoon, Bronwyn too distracted by his blue textbooks to even bring it back up again, to his face that was. But the following morning when he sat the great hall for breakfast and watched as Harry Potter slinked in to eat sporting two black eyes and a limp.  He knew she had worked it out. And clearly she had come out on top. But he expected no less considering her number of older brothers.

Author's note:

I'm sorry this took so long, but if I'm being honest writing scenes when they're at school is really hard for me. So it's often that I put these chapters off. If it's evidenced by how many you got in quick succession for the summer holidays vs back to Hogwarts.

I'll try to be better at updating this fic, but please note I have plenty of others which are being updated regularly in the mean time.

Thanks
