Chapter Thirty Two
The sisters
Bronwyn returned that evening from speaking to her dad both excited and still feeling down and in the dumps. It was strange to be feeling both emotions at the same time. There was much to be excited about, her dad had left her to go to his home office to write back to the Zabini House to accept the formal contract between the two teens, this meant that everything was set in stone. An official courting letter had been sent and established, and therefore it was confirmed. And she knew that there would be a new letter waiting for her in the morning from her favourite boy. Something she was ecstatic to be receiving.
But then there was also the massive thing hanging over her head. Her own mother was ignoring her. Because she had strayed from the path the woman had set out for her. Bronwyn knew that there was much more that her mother expected from her than just befriending the boy who lived. Molly Weasley wanted more of a stronger connection between her eldest daughter and the teenaged war hero. She wanted something more solid, more eternal. Molly Weasley wanted at the end of this all for Bronwyn to marry Harry. She wanted Bronwyn to become a Potter. And by choosing her own path Bronwyn was ruining this for her. It was sad but pretty obviously true. And Bronwyn feared how her mother would act now that it had all but been confirmed now that the reality she thought she was going to have was now completely different.
It would be as the two sisters sat in their shared room that things would finally turn to the topic Bronwyn had been sadly awaiting. Ginny sat on her bed with a bottle of nail polish in a deep shade of maroon, Bronwyn sat opposite her sister, the latest edition of witches weekly open, her pen making little cross marks next to her answers in one of the quizzes. At the moment she was trying to work out which teen wizard heartthrob was going to fall in love with her. Part of her hoping it was Krum, still not able to get over the crush she had even after watching him fail horribly at the Tri-Wizard tournament the year prior.
"Winnie, is mum really being a bitch because of Blaise?" Ginny looked up at her older sister, watching as the older girl immediately went to fiddle with the necklace the mentioned boy had given her. Not wanting to accidentally send a message that she needed him when she was actually just missing him in that moment.
"Seems like it Gin, I think she's more upset I won't marry Harry now." Bronwyn casually threw her thoughts out there, aware this might just strike a chord in her younger sister, considering the girl had such a crush on him. Going past just that typical younger girl crushing on her sisters friend who is a boy.
"You and Harry would never work out." Ginny paused and Bronwyn wondered if her sister was going to phrase her next statement in a way to minimally insult her older sister. "He's too much of a twat, you'd kill him after six months." Ginny finished
"Brave of you to think we'd make it all the way down the alter." Bronwyn confirmed. "Didn't you have a crush on him or something?" She added on
"I did, then the Ministry happened. He just turned and left us there." Ginny lamented and Bronwyn turned her attention fully away from the magazine and moving to sit with her sister.
"It's okay to feel that way Gin. I know what happened there was not something any of us should have experienced. I'm mad that it happened to all of us." Bronwyn pulled her sister into her arms crushing the younger girl in her much longer arms.
"Back of Win, I'm trying to paint my nails here." Ginny grumbled and Bronwyn did let her sister go. "Anyways I think I like someone else."
"Ooh go on, you can't just leave it there." Bronwyn probed.
"Well what if it was like plural? Like more than someone else." Ginny's voice was a little quiet, as if she expected bad reactions, but Ginny had to realise this was her older sister. None of her older siblings would judge unless they were judging Percy for letting Oliver Wood slip away. Until that was rectified Percy would not be hearing the end of it.
"Never thought you could be tamed by just one person to be honest." Bronwyn shrugged but before she knew it the younger and stronger girl had pushed her to the floor. She landed with a soft thud and a string of giggles.
"You bitch, take that back." Ginny's confident and usual tone was back and she was no longer worried about her sister's reaction.
"Nu-uh little sis." With both sisters laughing things seemed so much better, as if a weight had been lifted from their relationship the moment that Harry Potter was removed. That the dynamic which returned them to being the closest of the siblings was now back. Now a boy was no longer between them. Time would only tell as to how Harry would respond to this update. Bronwyn was sure it wouldn't be well, but she couldn't bring herself to care. Not anymore.
"Girls." The shrill voice of their mother would break the two giggling teens apart, as Bronwyn returned to her own bed picking up the magazine from where she had left it. Only to frown upon finishing the quiz and seeing she had the result of Lukas Growling, the keeper of the English Quidditch team. He was so not her type.
It wouldn't be until much later when the lights were out in the room that Bronwyn remembered that their conversation had been cut off early. And now the itch was back, she just had to know who her younger sister was crushing on. Totally so she could make a plan to play match maker. Therefore, she turned herself in her single bed to look at the bed on the right hand side of the room, the one her sister slept in.
"So who is it you're crushing on?" She whispered scared that somehow their voices would travel two floors up and to their parents room.
"Winnie." Ginny whined back but the younger sister knew that there was not much else she could do about it. Her sister had her mind set on getting answers. And she was stuck now.
"Fine." Ginny sighed "Neville and Luna." Ginny listened as silence overtook the room.
"Okay, so like Neville in a younger girl sandwich. How controversial." Bronwyn responded and Ginny couldn't stop the loud laughter she let out.
"We're going to give mum a heart attack at this rate." Ginny continued to laugh her sounds slightly quieter but it didn't matter to Bronwyn her parents could suck it up they were floors away.
"Wait until Fred and Hermione start dating and don't forget George and Lee." Bronwyn added on.
"Fred and Hermione?" Ginny questioned, clearly having not seen the connection.
"Yeah I place my money on by the time Hermione and I finish school that they're together." Bronwyn offered, and even in the dark she could see that her sister had a shit eating grin upon her face, she clearly thought otherwise.
"5 Galleons."
