Blood is Thicker Than Water (Ellington Ratliff)

Prompt: Could u do a R5 one shot where Ellington feels left out of the band since he the only one that not related but the others find out and make him feel better thanks xx

Ellington never felt like he fit in with his band mates, sure he has the same hair like Rocky and he is the same age as Rydel, but he has never truly felt the same connection to them as they feel to each other, or even their manager Ryland because he was the only one that wasn't related to them by blood.

At Ryland's family birthday party. Ellington felt really out of place, he tried everything to fit in with his band mates, even going by his last name so all of their names started with a R, but at these parties like these he couldn't even pretend he was related to them with his extended and immediate family laughing and sharing memories with each other.

Stormie Lynch knew how he felt and even pulled him aside before the party to tell him that in her mind she had 5 sons, he nodded and gave a fake smile because being considered a son and being one were two different things he still wasn't their blood and he still didn't grow up with them. His band mates tried to make sure that at least one of them was with him all times, of course that didn't work because as soon as guests started arriving he isolated himself with his phone going through twitter thinking about why he was invited.

Then suddenly a thought struck him he was in a successful band that Ryland manages, of course they only invited because I'm in they band, he thought to himself, Stormie and Mark (a/n their dad's name is mark right) want to show off how even they're youngest son is successful.

Over the course of the party Ellington stayed in Rocky's room the entire time, he contributed to a few conversations, only saying a few words, but still acting relatively like himself whenever anyone came in. When Ryland did a yell for cake announced that it was time for cake he noticeably deflated at the fact that he'd once again had to be in a room.

When the party was over, Ellington's expected mood was to be happy because of it only being his band in the house but it didn't, but his mood stood, he was still upset and he still wasn't family.

"Tell me what's wrong" Riker said, jumping onto the foot of Rocky's bed to face Ratliff "And don't lie to me"

He opened his mouth but paused when the other three members of the band walked in saw the serious look on his face, and automatically started to question him, after all he had always been the funny lively one in the group.

"I'm fine," Ratliff started, ignoring the eye roll he got from the statement, "It's just you guys are all siblings..." He trailed off unsure how to phrase his feelings.

"Yeah El" Rydel coos using the nickname they call him in public, "We are, is that why you've so upset lately"

Ellington tilts his head slightly noticeable nod before looking back down to his jeans. He ignored the silence between the five of them until he felt himself falling backwards onto his back with his band members piled on top of him.

"Hey your our brother too" Rocky said reaching down from his spot from above Ross, who was directly on to of Ellington, to mess up his best friends hair like he does to all his siblings when he wants to embarrass him.

"But I'm still not blood " Ellington replied trying to look anyone in the eye, which was hard with Ross's hair in his eyes. "Haven't you heard the term blood is thicker then water. I'm the water you're the blood, I just- its true"

Riker tried to to face palm at Ellington's perception of the quote but found that his one of his hands were pinned behind him by Rydel and the other was stuck underneath making Ellington a slight feel concerned older his older friend.

"Dude," Riker laughed, "the original quote is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." it means the complete opposite of what you said"

Ellington cocked his head to the side with confusion until he realized that them saying literally meant that the blood actually meant friends and water meant family and smiled slightly.

"How do you even know that?" Rydel asked Riker from on top of him.

"Tumblr" Riker answered.

"You know that doesn't matter right" Ryland stated as he walked into the room and jumped on top of Rydel to join the dog pile, "I mean its so obvious that you like my sister and that she likes you"

"Yes OTP!" Ross screeched as he tried to turn over to face his younger brother, laughing at the identical looks of embarrassment on rydellington's faces.
