Something You Get Over (Jack Maynard)

Prompt: J + C Maynard. Please do where jack has been having nightmares (maybe about how a family member used to abuse them or he got bullied or something like that!) and Conor comforts him. Can it also be where Conor was the one who always used to save him form whatever happened when they were younger. Thank you! :) xxx

Jack had always had realistic dreams, ever since he was a kid he had trouble deciphering what was a dream and what wasn't and it scared the living crap out of his family. As a children the two eldest of the Maynard family experienced a lot of trauma, lucky said trauma was kept away from Anna, the youngest of the siblings, but it scarred Jack for life.

The trauma that the boys suffered effected Jack more than it did Conor, it may be because he was younger, but while Conor was able to move on from his past it never stopped effecting Jack and it probably never would.

Jack and Conor shared a room until they moved into an apartment in London wit their friend Josh. Ever since they moved into the apartment with Josh, Jack's dreams had been turning into nightmares, and since he no longer shared a room with his brother, it wasn't easy for him to be comforted. So he did his best to stay awake, not wanting to re-experience his past over and over again. His tactics worked for a while, until he found that himself falling asleep on the couch despite not wanting to.

Conor was very grateful Josh was out of town with Caspar when Jack had his first episode, it would have been awkward to explain to someone who knew nothing of their abusive past why Jack was panicking. Mikey was there, but he already knew everything about Jack so it definitely was not as awkward as it would have been if Josh, Caspar, or Joe were their instead of him.

Conor looked over to Mikey seeing his little brother on the couch asleep and put a finger to his lips, signalling for his friend to be quiet, Jack hadn't gotten much sleep in the past few days and he had noticed. While Connor went to his room to film a video, Mikey decided to stay and watch over Jack, he was on his phone scrolling through Instagram when he heard a quiet whimper escape Jack's lips. He didn't think much of it, until Jack started sleep talking.

"Jack, mate," Mikey made his way over to his friend, "Are you okay" He put a hand on Jack's shoulder causing him to jolt awake, which surprised Mikey not only from the sudden burst of life, but because Jack was crying and Jack almost never cried. "Conor," Mikey called out, "I need your help out here"

"Yeah what's up Mikey," Conor said walking into the room, "Aw Jack, buddy did you have a nightmare" Jack nodded slightly. "Do you want to talk about it," Jack nodded towards Mikey trying to tell Conor that he couldn't handle anyone else being there at the moment. Luckily Mikey saw this and understood.

"I want you to text me later when you're feeling better," Mikey stood and walked towards the door, "See you guys later"

"Was it Uncle John again?" Conor asked sitting next to Jack letting the younger boy lie in his lap.

"Yeah" Jack's voice cracked, "He was gonna hurt me and you came and he just started hitting you over and over again and he wouldn't stop." Jack looked up and Conor, who was running his hand through his hair. "I was so scared I thought you were gonna die"

"Jack look at me," Conor made Jack sit up and looked him in the eyes, "I am okay, and you are okay, Uncle John is in jail he can't hurt me, you, or Anna ever again, I know this isn't something you just get over, but" Conor didn't know what to say, "Just come here" Conor pulled Jack into a hug.

"I love you" Jack whispered.

"Love you too, bud"
