Chapter: 31
A sigh escaped my lips. It was midnight, and mom was still at the hospital. I took sips from my tea, watching the snow falling on the ground softly... Everyone was fast asleep, but due to my sleeping problems, I couldn't. So, I went down to the living room, watching from the wall sized window.A smile crept on my face as I observed the snow... Adrian used to adore it. Even when it's pitch black, he would run outside just to play with the snow... He was older than me in a year... He was supposed to be 17 years old, a senior now... But I guess God has a plan. Maybe he passed away so that he gets relieved from the pain, and bullying.
Light blinded me, so I put my hand out to shield my eyes. Mom is here! After a minute, she opened the door, shaking the snow off of her coat.
"Oh, you're awake!" She smiled, taking off her gloves.
"Yeah, I couldn't sleep," I replied.
She gave me a sad smile, and walked to hug me.
"Do you want some tea?" I asked, gesturing to the cup on the table.
She shook her, "no. Thank you, but I got to sleep now, I'm exhausted!"
"Alright, good night mom."
She kissed my forehead, "good night."
"Wait," I called, and she turned back to me. "Mom, the mail came in the morning, and there's one from New York!" Her eyes widened at that. "I have been noticing that a message like it comes every couple of weeks. So, who is it from?"
"It's nothing, Ally."
"Yes it is! Is it work? Or what?" I asked.
"I said its nothing, so forget it!"
I stayed silent, "do you want to see it?"
She nodded, extending her hand so that I give it to her. I walked to the table and took the letter.
She walked away without saying a word... So I got back to my room to check on my friends. They were all sleeping peacefully on my bed, it was big enough for all of us. Destiny was between Austin and Dylan, her hand thrown at Austin's cheek. They were splattered on the bed... Austin had his legs tangled with Destiny's. I swear these two are perfect for each other! Then there's Dylan, sleeping on his side, hugging a pillow. They looked so cute! I so wanted to jump on the bed and wake them up, but they would kill me! Maybe another time. Cue the evil laugh and thunder at the background.
I walked down to the kitchen, to wash the tea cup. As soon as I entered, I froze.
Mom was crying!
"Mom," I called. "What's happening?!"
She shook her head, sniffling and wiping her tears. The letter was in front of her. "Nothing," her voice was broken.
"What's in the letter?" I asked.
She looked at me, and took a sip of her red wine. I walked to her, and was going to take a look at the paper, but she crumbled it.
"No! You won't see it!" She exclaimed."Mom! Give it to me!" After a few minutes of struggling, I was able to snatch it from her.
"No!" She screamed, anger flashing in her eyes. I was able to read it, and my heart came to a halt. It was from Lloyd Brian.
"My dad," I whispered, my voice coming out shaky, as my heart beat increased.
She sighed, rubbing her forehead. "He wants you to go to his house for the break."
"But I don't want to go! I hate him!" I exclaimed.
"Watch your words, he's your father!"
"He isn't my father," I said bitterly. "He's a jerk!"
