Kai's POV

As the six of us made our way through the bunker, the lift seemed to be a repurposed freight elevator that was fitted into a shaft that was only slightly bigger than the elevator. We all stepped inside and I pulled the lever; I'm not gonna lie, the elevator made me nervous. It was a shear rectangular cut into the earth that went who knows how deep. Eventually the shaft opened up into a large cavern, resembling an aircraft hanger. "Wow. This place is huge." I said to under my breath. My scroll started beeping, when I looked a map of the facility showed up on screen. A red dot flashed on screen ahead of us and started moving down a hallway to our left. Once the elevator stopped and the gate opened, I hurried to keep up with the dot on the map. The others followed me as I attempted to follow the indicator on the map. I was lead into what looked like a submarine port with one submarine still there. The dot remained stationary for a few moments so I looked around for the source; from behind a stack of crates stepped out a familiar figure.

Niko stepped out into the open, he was dressed in the same black military uniform we had minus the mask and was holding his scroll in hand. "Glad your here, now...." he began before taking a look at our whole group. "Why did you bring so many people? Wait, who did you bring?" Niko asked. Before I could answer, the door behind us opened and a swarm of guards surrounded us. Niko pulled out Jackal and pointed it at us.

"You traitorous mother fucker. We trusted you." I shouted at Niko as the guards forced us down to our knees. Another unmasked guard separated the crowd and stood next to Niko. "Good work Niko, you have allowed our plans to go on without incident." Niko just said. "Yeah Trevor, whatever." Trevor pulled my mask off and grabbed my face. "Might have a use for this one." he said. I spit in his face and he punched me square in the cheek. "On second thought, Niko kill them." He said that with such a causal tone, it seemed like an execution was a mundane task. Niko racked the slide of his pistol and kept it trained at my head. "Sorry about this, nothing personal." Seconds felt like hours as I closes my eyes  awaited the cold embrace of death; I wondered what would the last thing I heard be. An expected gunshot rang out, but then came a second furry shots fired by Niko. I reopened my eyes to see the guards that surrounded us were lying dead with a baseball sized hole through their chest's.  The only one remaining was the one Niko called Trevor, who was being drowned by him in the vacant submarine port. Jackel and Sphinx lay discarded in front of me, but from the sight of Niko drowning Trevor left me paralysed in fear and awe. Once he stoped clawing at Niko's sleeves, Trevor's body limply floated  in the water. Niko stops up slowly and gathered his guns. "I'm sorry you had to witness that." He helped us to our feet, then reloaded his pistols. "Hurry up, we need to get to the control room, before that realize what I've done." I finally snapped out of my confused state and I asked him. "Why are you doing this? I'm not sure who's side your on anymore."  He sighed and tucked his guns away. "Ok, you want an explanation for what I've done, fine." Niko took a deep breath and shared his story as we walked. "My primary role as the ninth mercenary was infiltration and espionage. I've mastered my craft and learned some useful strategies along with it. When I learned of the plan that the others had been formulating, I knew I had to stop it when I got the chance. So I played my part as the traitor and worked my way back into the heart of the operation. I admit I had done some unforgivable things when I was doing that, but I only did what was necessary to keep up my facade. I had no intentional malice in my actions, some of it was my true nature bleeding into my more composed self."

His story ended as we made it to the armory. "Here we are, take what you'll need. Pretty soon the alarm is gonna go off and we'll need to fight." He checked his watch quickly. "Shit, only thirty seconds left." Everyone grabbed a gun that didn't have a close quarters weapon. A shrill siren began to blare over the intercom. "Come on, we don't have much time." Niko shouted to us as he rushed out of the room and down the hallway towards a set of metal doors. He typed on a computer terminal next to the door, then all of us out our backs to the doors as they slowly opened. Armed soldiers started pouring into the hallway. Niko shot at them, however the others hesitated to open fire. "What's wrong?" Niko asked as he knocked over a large metal pillar to turn it into cover for us. Bullets ricocheted  off of the doors behind us as well as the pillar ; but even that kind of pressure, killing didn't come naturally. Niko and I had fought those mercenaries on that train, but all I did was wound them. Niko did all the killing and I'm not sure I can bring myself to it.

"Listen to me; if we don't attempt to kill them, then this bunker will be our graves and thousands of innocent lives will be ended. Please trust me." He pleaded with us. "I can't trust you; I'm not gonna make the same mistake more than once, but I will believe you for now."  I joined him in defending our position from the Spire soldiers. The first shot that hit its mark blew out one of the soldier's chest and the blood splattered the others. Shell after shell clattered against the floor and soon more brass casings joined them. All of us continued shooting and until the door seperating us from the next area had lowered into the floor enough to climb over.  "Here, I'll help you all over." Niko locked his hands together and boosted us over one at a time starting with Yang. One after another we were boosted over the wall and Niko climbed over the barrier.

As he pulled himself over the barrier, a bullet ripped through his shoulder and he tumbled over, landing at our feet. He clamped his hand over his wounded shoulder. "Argh. Fuck, this hurts. What the hell." He said. I helped him to his feet, but he stopped me. "I'm fine..I'm fine."  We continued fighting our way through the facility and came up to the control room.

"Here we are, let's hurry up and put a stop to this." I ran ahead, with the others following us. After my teammates entered the room, a thick transparent barrier separated our teams. I leveled Nightingale with the barrier, but Niko stopped me. "That's plexiglass barricade. It's ment to stop any intruders from getting this far." He said, pushing Nightingale's barrel away from it. "See those metal bars in the glass; those are impact sensors hooked up to a poisonous gas system; unless you want both of these rooms to get filled with poisonous gas, I suggest you don't shoot it."  Niko pressed his hand against the barrier and said. "You three get our of here. That submarine you saw earlier had auto pilot so all you have to do is type in the location and it'll take you there."  They nodded and turned to leave, but Blake and Weiss have us a longing look, before they left. "Come on. Only a bit farther to the control room." Niko kept his hand over his gunshot wound and was wincing when he shifted his arm. Thought of Niko in pain never really crossed my mind till now, but I didn't waste time asking him about it. There will be time for that later.
