Kai's POV
Roughly 30 minutes later
I hid behind a concrete divider as some guys armed with rifles and shotguns. I blind fired a few rounds of double ought buckshot, trying to keep the attackers behind cover. Behind me, Niko shouted. "Sniper. Third floor fire escape." The the sniper was going to be a problem, I was armed with a shotgun and I didn't have any other weapons that would have the range to take him down. I was about to take a few shots at the shooters on the ground when Niko came sprinting towards me, vaulting over the divider and tackling one if the riflemen. Niko stood while using the man as a human shield. Niko drew a pistol from his hostage. The others had no time to react before Niko shot each of them, a look of fear permanently plastered to their faces. The pistol had ran out of ammunition before Niko could make the final kill, so he improvised. Shoving his human shield into the final gunman, Niko drew his sword and stabbed both of them through the chest. All that was left was the sniper on the fire escape, who Ruby quickly shot in the shin. His rifle dropped to the street below.
"It's safe to come out now." I said. Soon we regrouped and tried to figure out who had attacked us and why. Niko checked IDs while the rest of us came up with a plan. "Kai. Come check this out." I jogged over, looking over his shoulder. He pointed out a tattoo on the neck of one of the bodies. It was what looked to be a knife and the number six in Roman numerals. "What about it?" I asked. He looked at me, his expression was grim. "I recognize it." He turned to the others. "I'm going to sort this out and meet up with you at the train station." I told him. "Your not going alone. I'll go with you." He looked at me and said. "No your not." He began to walk away. "Hey I'm your team leader and it's a direct order." I yelled. Niko continued to walk not looking back, but he said. "And this is me ignoring that order." I ran up to him and grabbed his wrist, a mistake on my part. I was thrown backwards and Niko was standing over me. "Please. Just don't follow me. If you do I'm afraid you'll get hurt or worse." For once he sounded like he cared for the well being of me and the others. He helped me to my feet and walked over to Weiss. He kissed her on the cheek and left without another word. I looked at Weiss who was blushing. "What was that?" Ruby asked, clearly confused. Weiss said. "Didn't I tell you I had a crush, that crush just so happen to care about me. No big deal." She smiled a little bit.
Niko's POV
This can't be happening. That tattoo and the number. Either it's a coincidence or one of my brothers is in charge around here. What ever is going on, I need to get to the bottom of it. I followed the path of footprints that seemed to come from the people that attacked. I followed them until they lead me to what looked like a rundown office building. I waited for a few minutes and watched for guards, seeing only two outside the door. I reached into my jacket pocket and pulled out my baton that I kept with me even though Ozpin ordered us to leave our weapons behind. I crept up to the guards, striking the first one in temple and then extended my baton, hitting the second guard in the shin, then the side of their head. I moved the unconscious guards behind some crates and looked for anything useful on them. As I checked, I found a Colt 1911, a serpressor, a few mags, and a pure black bandana. I put on the bandana on, trying to keep my identity hidden the best I can and put the serpressor on the 1911. "I'm coming for you Merrick." I said to myself. I snuck in and saw there were more guards than I though there would be. "Well this will be fun." I thought to myself.
