P.O.V: Rose Tyler

With those strange (and rather hard to believe!) words, I hurried out of the building, and since it was now closed I didn't have to worry about anyone getting hurt.

I made my way across the street from Henrick's until I reached the other side of the street, almost getting hit by a cab.

"Watch it!" he hollered.

I turned and looked back at the building. Didn't look like it was exploding to me. Just as I was thinking that "The Doctor" was just some ole' kook, the top floor of the building ignited and blew with a huge crashing noise!

I turned away and hurried to my apartment, where I shut and locked the door behind me.

A few hours later, I was still lounging at home, and Mum was overreacting, talking on the phone with her friend on the other end, and the telly was on.

"The whole of Central London has been closed off as the police investigate the fire. Early reports indicate..." I stopped listening when I saw Mum come in from the other room.

"I know, it's on the telly, it's everywhere! She's lucky to be alive! Honestly, it's aged her. Skin like an old bible. Walking in now you'd think I was her daughter!"

I sighed as Mum rambled on.

"Oh, and here's himself." She said as Mickey walked the room. Mickey was my boyfriend, we'd been dating for about two years now. Mickey was an odd sort of bloke, but he was great. He was about my height, had a dark complexion, sharp nose, and dark brown eyes.

"I've been phoning your mobile, you could've been dead! It's on the news and everything! I can't believe that your shop went up!"

I sighed again. It really wasn't that big of a deal, everyone needed to stop overreacting!

"I'm alright, honestly! I'm fine. No need to make a big fuss."

"Well what happened?" He inquired.

"I don't know." Even though I wanted to tell him so badly, I knew I couldn't. I remembered the Doctor's words. If I tell anyone I'll get them killed.

"What was it though? What caused it?"

I sighed once more, but this time in frustration.

"I wasn't in the shop, I was outside. I didn't see anything." I felt bad for lying, but just then Mum came in.

"It's Debbie on the other end, she knows a man on the Mirror. Five hundred quid for an interview!"

This was getting out of hand. "Oh that's brilliant!" I said in fake enthusiasm. "Give it here."

When Mum handed me the phone I immediately hung up.

Mum looked crestfallen. "Well you've got to find some way of making money. Your job's kaput and I'm not bailing you out." Typical Mum, always trying to help, yet in an odd sort of way.

The phone rang once more and Mum immediately picked it up. "Bev!" she exclaimed, and walked the phone into another room. "She's alive, I've told her, sue for compensation! She was within seconds of death!"

Her voice trailed off and I just wanted to curl in a ball and disappear. Too much overreacting.

Mickey spoke up after that, all enthusiastic. "What're you drinking, tea? Nah, nah, that's no good, you need something stronger. You're in shock." He took my hand and tried to pull me off the couch.

"I'm alright." I said without budging.

"Now come on. You deserve a proper drink! We're going down to the pub, you and me. My treat. How bout' it?"

I knew there was something more than that.

"Is there a match on?" I asked, grinning.

Mickey acted concerned. "No, no, I'm just thinking about you babe!"

I laughed, "There's a match on ain't there?"

"That's not the point, but we could catch the last five minutes!"

I laughed again. "Go on then, I'm fine, really. And take that with you!"

I pointed to the manikin's arm the Doctor had handed to me to hold when he tore it off. I'd brought it home, but I didn't know why.

He smiled and gave me a quick kiss, then picked up the arm.

"Bye bye!" he said, then proceeded to pretend to choke himself with it.

"Bye!" I said, chuckling.

I tuned back in to the telly.

"Fires then spread throughout the store. Fifteen fire crews are in attendance though it's thought there's little chance to save the infrastructure...."

The next morning my alarm went off the same time as usual, and I heard Mum's voice from outside my bedroom.

"There's no use getting up sweetheart, you've got no job to go to!"

I groaned and roller over in bed, falling back asleep.

A few hours later I was dressed and eating breakfast at the table. Mum was giving me job ideas I could try.

"There's Finch's, you could try them. They've always got jobs."

I dropped my spoon into my bowl and pushed it away. "Oh, great. the butchers."

"Well it might do you good. That shop was giving you airs and graces. And I'm not joking about compensation! You've had genuine shock and trauma! Arianna got two thousand quid off the council just because the old man behind the desk said she looked Greek!"

I turned to Mum and raised my eyebrows.

"Well she is Greek but that's not the point. It was a valid claim."

I heard a rattle at the door and approached cautiously. It was the cat flap.

"Mum, you're such a liar!" I called down the hallway. "I told you to nail that cat flap down! We're going to get strays."

"I did it weeks back!" I heard her voice come from the back of the hallway.

"No, you thought about it!" But just then, I looked down and saw the screws from the cat flap on the floor. I gulped and realized that Mum did nail it up, but someone or something took them out.

The flap flapped open again, and I slowly opened it and peeked out. It was the Doctor.
