Ch.19
"So, do you think he's home?" I asked Shane as we parked into Cam's drive way. We had decided to just crash at his place for the night considering Shane's house was an obvious no-no and my house was being targeted by an unknown person.
Shane turned the key shutting off the engine. The engine died down, plunging us in a deafening silence. The air was cold and humid, partly because of spring air and another due to the strong ac of the car.
Peering through the foggy windshield, shane shrugged. We both stared at the beautiful house in front of us. It was two stories, nothing too fancy, but definitely not a house that a fighter would live in. The drive way was made out of red bricks, it had one garage big enough to fit two cars. The actual house was painted a soft tan with an orange roof. It had about four windows, two of which were upstairs facing the street, a balcony which connected into one of the rooms. It had a large oak tree in the front yard surrounded by red flowers.
It was very home-y, quaint. If you didn't know any better you'd never guess that an underground fighter lived there. It just didn't fit the cookie cutter style of the house.
But I knew better, mostly because I've seen pictures and I've been over once or twice to pick up Val. But I've never actually walked into the house.
"I don't know but if anything I have a key to the back door. We could probably sneak into the guest rooms upstairs. Cam is most likely in his room on the main floor." Shane explained, unbuckling his seat belt. He reached behind my chair and pulled our big bags to the front. I accepted my bag Andre both began to shuffle out of the car.
Shane walked to the door, pulled open the screen door and knocked on the dark stained door. We waited a few more seconds, but there was no response. I pressed my finger on the door bell hearing it chime through the house, but it only echoed off the empty halls.
"Maybe they're at Val's place?" I suggested beginning to turn to head back to the car.
"Here, let's go into the back door." Shane said grabbing my wrist and pulling me to the left side of the house which was shrouded in thick bushes. Even from where I was standing I could see the small dew drops shining on the spiderwebs from the moonlight.
"Like hell you're making me go through there." I said stomping my feet hard on the ground. No, no, no! I refuse.
"Oh come on mack, it's just the bushes. What you scared of a few tiny spiders?" Shane taunted rolling his eyes.
I just snorted and nodded. "Hell mother fucking yeah. That tiny little spider can kill me. I have a great respect for tiny things. And there is no way in hell you making me do that." I said shaking my head side to side and backing up.
"Oh my god. I can't believe you're scared of spiders. Of all people, you are scared of spiders." Shane scoffed.
I fight people. Not spiders. I am probably one of the strongest women alive today and I could take on a bunch of people and win. But not spiders. Uh uh! No way, Nope. Not gonna happen. Not today. Not tomorrow, not EVER.
Yeah. Well I guess not ever is an over statement. Because here we were, me climbing over the tall wooden fence with shane right below me. I was swatting away anything that touched me which was pretty difficult balancing on top of Shane's shoulders.
"God damn it mack, just do it. The chances of you getting bit re slim to none." I paused and pulled his ear hard.
"Shane jerked hard causing us to lean back. He teetered making me grip his neck tight. We swayed and shane lost his footing making us fall. Hard.
