I took a deep breath as I registered concrete beneath my human form. I blinked a few times, struggling to push myself into a sitting position.
There was a faint huff of breath before a body collapsed just out of my current vision. I turned my gaze, looking at the ex-guardian.
I was quiet for a few moments before whispering. "Are you okay?"
"Hardly. If it's been 5 months, I should've degraded well past reasonable speech. I am...trying to tone the animosity I feel, but it is at a level similar to just before the positive freak grabbed you."
"A blessing in disguise, I suppose..."
Nightmare turned his head quickly, giving a weak hiss towards something behind me. With an annoying amount of effort, I managed to turn myself around while still seated.
Dream stood there.
I sighed softly. "Good, you can still enter my dreams."
Dream crossed his arms. "Probably because I can be in direct contact with you. Not like we can get very far from each other, anyway."
I hummed quietly at that, not really responding.
"Why do you even want him here? " Nightmare muttered.
"Because we need to have privacy for some of the conversations needing to be had. I mentioned briefly about my conversation with Fate. I wouldn't go into detail while we were in the Mainframe. They can hear everything."
Dream walked over, sitting across from me. I could practically feel Nightmare's anger simmering, but he kept quiet.
"So what happened?"
I put a hand to my chest, looking down and away a little. "I know where I came from. Me. My multiverse. We were correct about me not being from the multiverse I ended up in, but we couldn't understand how magic didn't exist in my multiverse."
I squeezed my eyes shut, feeling faint grief for the lost souls. "My multiverse is dead. Like a branch from a tree, it fell, and magic seeped away. Once it was completely magic-less, it lasted a few thousand more years before disappearing completely. I guess I died a few years before it collapsed...time is so weird..."
"How does that explain you getting in my soul and body? "
I glanced at Nightmare before sighing. I explained what the three powerful people did with the lost souls of my multiverse and what had happened.
Dream remained silent, looking thoughtful.
"So it was more of a wrong place at right time for you, then."
I nodded.
"So Fate watches over you, and Life watches over that child."
"Yeah. Proper reincarnation removes all memories of your past life, but I guess something small unlocked for Gradient when I mentioned his past name. He doesn't remember too much."
"I see."
I shifted uneasily. "Also...apparently, Life and Destiny are working to keep this multiverse from falling apart."
Dream's eyes widened. "Falling apart??" He growled under his breath. "Dammit, brother, what are you DOING?!"
"I would surmise that this multiverse has adapted to be stable despite the overwhelmingly positive nature. The squad wouldn't have stopped doing what they were doing, but since you haven't been around, the positive atmosphere would've taken a nosedive. Especially after 5 months."
