Chapter 3
Arulan wiped his sword off on the back of one of the magicians' cloaks. It was coated in blood and gore; he couldn't stand anything other than a clean blade. The enemy magicians had spontaneously attacked without warning, while all the Moon Children and most of the magicians had been celebrating Luna's coronation. As a result, a lot of the rebels were dead and many more were missing in action, including the subjects of the prophecy: Troy and Dahlia. From what Arulan could tell, three of their friends had also disappeared, including Kayla, Tamarak and Hunter.
Fortunately, their bodies had not been discovered yet. If their bodies weren't found, it meant that they were alive. With every dead rebel that they uncovered who was not one of them, Arulan felt relief, as sad as he felt about the other dead rebels.
Many magicians were dead, including a lot of the trainees from the Elemental Academy. Since most of the trainees were young recruits, the majority of the dead were teenagers to young adults, something that made Arulan's stomach churn. These teenagers were supposed to have their whole lives ahead of them, instead they were prematurely dead because of the Fire Immortal.
Varmer's magicians had used the Earth Door and managed to hit the trainees at the Elemental Academy. Some of the families who lived beyond the Elementary were also dead because the enemy magicians had also used the Fire Door at the opposite end of the island. It was only thanks to Luna's diviner powers and Athena's strategist abilities that they hadn't all been killed.
Now that they had killed all of Varmer's magicians, or at least so they had thought, Arulan had organized an excavation team to go through and make sure they were dead. There was safety in powers; at least that was how Athena deemed it.
Hence, Arulan himself had to go as the Magician of Fire since Troy had disappeared, along with Yasmine, Donovan, Tristan, Cherry, Jerome and Sapphire. Sapphire was only going along to save any magicians or Moon Children who could still be healed. Luna had wanted to go, but the Moon Children had refused to let their newly-appointed queen leave the Elementary until after they had secured the island; a few Moon Children were going in her place. Raven loyally stayed with Luna in case they needed a decoy at the last second. It was much to Raven's credit that she was still willing to risk her life after the poisoning she had gotten during the attempted assassination of Luna.
"This one's alive!" one of the Yasmines shouted; Yasmine could multiply herself until there were many copies of her. "Sapphire!"
The magician did not look good; he had a bleeding leg, a dislocated shoulder and a cracked spinal cord. Sapphire could tell, even though she had barely glanced at the young man. She dashed over, booted feet stumbling over the uneven ground, strands of greasy, uncombed blonde hair flapping in her eyes. She dug out her med kit, yanking out a handful of sterile white bandages. She shoved the wad of bandages into the wound of his leg to apply pressure to staunch the blood flow from his leg.
"I need to get this man to the hospital wing!" Sapphire commanded.
Donovan dashed over. "Can we use a stretcher?" he asked.
Sapphire shook her head. "No, he's got spinal injuries. I don't dare move him if we have an option. It might make things worse. Hopefully he's just got a temporary spinal injury, not one that's permanent. If we move him, it might make matters worse. Light leap him to the hospital wing and tell Jared that I think he's got a cracked vertebrae. Don't move him any more than you have to."
