Chapter 24
Arulan, Helen, Raven, Romulus and Luna had reached the grounds of the Elemental Academy shortly before the fiasco happened in the hospital wing had happened and Troy and the others had escaped. Magicians were spilling out of the main doors and racing out of their homes from behind the school; each and every one of them was carrying their weapons and picking up armour along the way. The Moon Children were following the same protocol, with less efficiency, for they hadn't known what to do in wake of the alarm.
"Do you think you can wake Luna again?" Arulan asked Raven as Kathryn waved him over impatiently, even as she thrust another piece of diamond armour at another magician about to go through the Fire Door.
Raven looked doubtful. "I have no idea what knocked her out this time," she said. "I could try to find out."
"Helen, find out what that vision was," Arulan urged, glancing up at the Elemental Academy; smoke was spilling out of the window of the hospital wing.
"Gotcha," she replied, preparing to use her telepathy magic again.
"Wait," Romulus told her grimly. "I can't carry you and Luna and help Raven at the same time. Arulan has to deal with the evacuation stuff; let me get my brother and Cedric to help us or something."
Helen nodded as Arulan hurried off towards Kathryn. The other four followed the flood of magicians, stopping at the edge of the Fire Gate where Cedric was directing the magicians out. Remus had joined him and Athena at this point and there was a collection of additional armour at Remus's side.
"Romulus!" he called to his twin in relief. "I was wondering where you were."
"I could have said the same about you," Romulus retorted jokingly, putting Luna down on the grass and taking the diamond breast piece from Remus. He unbuckled his quiver of arrows from around his chest, slipped the armour over his head and fastened the quiver back over the armour. "I need your help to watch these three magicians before we get off the island."
"Sure-" Remus began and was interrupted by Cedric's exclamation of shock over Luna's condition.
"Is she okay?" he asked in panic, his gaze rotating from Romulus to Helen and back again.
"I hope so," Helen said, through gritted teeth as she sat down on the ground, half-concealed from sight by the twins. "We good now for me to read her mind?" She addressed this last comment to Romulus, who nodded.
"Definitely," he said, now fitting on wrist gauntlets. "We'll have to get armour for you, though; maybe standard armour?"
"She can use Dahlia's," Raven said as Helen extended her telepathy again, reaching for Luna's mind. "Troy and Dahlia's armour are so specialized, Helen will definitely be safe."
Those were the last words Helen heard before she entered Luna's mind.
Arulan reached Kathryn's side in a couple of seconds. The illusionist, around fifty years of age, was already wearing diamond armour over a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Her quiver of arrows was buckled over her breast piece and her bow was slung over her shoulder. Her face was grim and determined.
